In case anyone missed the announcement at the main site a few weeks ago (I know I usually jump straight to the forum) SDC #5 is now on.

You will need to design a scenario satisfying all the following criteria

1. any time period within 1500 - 1800 AD (ON EARTH)
2. the theme is 'Age of Sail' (but can include land units)
3. PBEM compatible. (you can use FW if that's all you have)

Deadline for submission is end of Nov.

email warvoid@aol.com for a codename if you are interested. Both myself and WillemO are already registered.

I would put my name forward, but I have nowhere near the skills to make a whole scenario.

I can only offer my help in the fields of story and events writing, testing, balancing and historical dig-work....

Sincerly,

Seriously, some of the newer scenario designers here are completely unknown outside of civfan. It would be good for them to enter the contest.

...so that I can thrash them as well :splat:

TRACID, in this contest teams are allowed (up to 3 people). Perhaps you can link up with one or two others to enter. Good luck!

Nope, its civfanatics vs the rest of the world. :crazyeye: Seriously, some of the newer scenario designers here are completely unknown outside of civfan. It would be good for them to enter the contest.

Am I included in that?

Age of Sail, did you say? Can you elaborate? And I would like to know, who's hosting the contest, who's participating, and who chooses the winner?

SDC is like the Academy Awards of Civ2 Scenarios but there wasn't any last year because the traditional hosts HAC (an entity called the Hodadian Awards Central) are no longer around. So this year the tradition is being revived by the folks over at Scenario League (which like HAC is housed over at Apolyton)

All details pertaining to the current contest can be found in this thread

http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47205

I do not know anything about SDC#1

Results of SDC#2 are recorded here
http://hac.apolyton.net/sdc2.shtml

HAC never did get down to doing a page for SDC#3 which was sort of a flop with only two entries because of the difficult theme - as I recall the theme was 'Jason and the Agronauts'. The winner was a great scenario called 'the Odessy'. Also some potential contestants were siphoned to the parallel TOT contest whose theme was 'Dracula'.

(don't worry, many people have indicated that they will participate this time round so it won't be a flop)

added later
ah found it - see this page for SDC#3 results

SDC # 5 is more like a joint contest now, rather than just being confined to Apolyton. Since i've known Thunderfall way back to before there even WAS a Civfanatics, I asked he to do me the honour of putting a few notes about the contest on the main site.

SDC is for EVERYONE, new and old, Apolytoner or Civfanatic. No need for animosity between the two forums, i'd like to see many participants from both sides. Currently I only have nine people registered.

TF already made an announcement shortly after the idea was confirmed and the rules were made public. I think he'd make another announcement though ;)
