SCENARIO

you are walking down the street and bump into a man. You both quikly apoligize and begin talking (screw realism im just setting you up for the problem) after several good conversations he mentions that he is a Christian. You tell him that you dont believe him because he hasnt been puching his religion on you and cursing every religion under the sun and condemning everyone sinning in a 5 block radius ( you know like a stereotypical Christian). So what would you do..........

Option 1:

end the friendship immediatly fearing he may be trapping you so he can convert you. Or.........

Option 2:

give him a chance, after all he hasnt done anything wrong..........yet

enjoi

You must believe that he is sent thru "God" to try to convert us? Well try to convert me! Anybody?

no, what are you talking about?

just a normal person, who happens to be Christian

I don't have a problem with Christains. Most of them are great people. But if they do start pushing their religon on me then I will retaliate with logic! HAHA!

I would suddenly shout out, "ALL PRAISE BE TO ALLAH! THERE IS ONE TRUE GOD, AND MUHAMMED IS HIS PROPHET! JIHAD!!!!!!!"

Just to scare him a bit.

But seriously, option 2. It's not like I have anything against Christians. If I did, I would pretty darn lonely.

I have several friends that are Christians. I find it handy to keep them around in case I get hungry on a rainy day.

No seriously, I befriend people of any faith/faithlessness so long as they don't harp it on me. Good discussion is one thing, but once someone stops talking and starts preaching, that's where I draw the line. I'll have as little to do with preachy atheists as I will Christians.

In this scenario, I as an atheist seem to have an exceptionally narrow and bigoted opinion about Christianity. Is this your own exceptionally narrow and bigoted opinion of atheists? If so, it's both insulting and incorrect (If not, my apologies for my bluntness).

Being an atheist does not automatically make me a "hater" of Christians or any other religious belief system. It simply means that my beliefs are different. Option 2 is my answer.

Someone who bases their friendships on religion are scum, pure and simple. AThiest, hindu, wiccan, christian, it doesn't matter who does it.

Someone who does this will also likely be a very lonely person.

EDIT: As superslug said before me, I'll have as little to do with preachy athiests as I will with preachy thiests.

Religion/non-religion is a negligable part of my life, it matters exactly 0% to me what someones beliefs are, so I never base anything upon it.

I like to consider myself Areligious rather then Aetheist, since Aetheism is like a religion against religions, which sounds VERY odd, so I don't like to use it. I cannot be "converted" though, as I must believe to be converted, and my beliefs need solid science to back them up (I do NOT wanna start the whole "science versus religion" thing here).

Hmmm...now the religion of YUMBO!, I must consider that as a definite possibility

I'd probably poke him in the eye for being a christian..

Nice said. :goodjob:

The question is pointless, because very few Christians are actually like the stereotype you presented. And if they were, they would have no friends to convert...

Option 2.

Aside from the fact that I work for a Catholic Organization, (so most people here are Catholic) I view religious preference as personal and private. If a person wants to worship God, Jesus, Buddha, Taoism, The Great Spirit or dandelions, that's his/her right. So long as he doesn't try and convert me, I'm fine.

But even then, I've had very good and close friends that were deeply religious. They tried, and it didn't work. I guess you might say I can resist temptation. ;) Sorry. . . But anyways, whatever turns them on, I say. So long as it doesn't affect me.

Sorry, but if its your view and your view alone, that doesn't make it a stereotype. :p

Option 2. i do not judge someone on what religion they take. plus, my best friend is Catholic, and my step-mom is a Protastant.
