There seems to be something wrong with science and culture overflow. Sometimes I get it, more often I don't.

Can you give me an example of when They do not overflow so I can test.
I do know Gorgo's culture kills do not overflow
Should this thread be in GOTM @leif erikson

I was (deliberately) one point short on both Craftmanship and Early Empire. Finishing Craftmanship didn't give any overflow to State Workforce. When I finished Early Empire instead, that did provide me with overflow, reducing the number of turns to Mysticism by one.

Finishing Mining (again with just one point left) seemed to produce overflow on Animal Husbandry. The game said it would be finished next turn. After I played the turn, however, there was still nearly 25% to go on Animal Husbandry (no, my science output hadn't changed). Writing didn't give any overflow either.

This should be easy to reproduce in the current GOTM as changing my play had no influence.

... so you are saying you got 0 overflow on any? Are you getting |Eurekas to finish them?... I know they do not get overflow

So here I am about to finish mining. It looks like I literally have 1 point of mining left to go and so should get roughly 3.8 over flow... 16 turns until city growth so nothing should change... its turn 7... damn I just got another pop from a goodie hut (stupid me) so it will probably be 5.5 science then

OK its only 5.2 because of -0.3 from Amenities

Now as I see it with 0 overflow it would take 5 turns to complete animal husbandry
Because there was overflow it's only 4 turns.
Your mistake is you expect some of the coloured bar to be filled but that's not the way they deal with overflow.
Luckily with production you can see the overflow a couple of turns later but there is no way with science and culture, they just reduce elapsed time.

As I understand it you will happily get overflow until you get a eureka but that's not properly tested.

No, I did not make that mistake, and no, I did not get a Eureka or Inspiration on these turns, nor did I pop a hut for anything else.

Unfortunately I can't make any schreenshots (when I try my system makes a screenshot of the wallpaper instead), but in your example it would say Animal Husbandry in 4, with the bar unfilled, and then after that turn it's still Animal Husbandry in 4 with the bar filled e.g. 22% where it should have been 40% and in 3.

Yuk, that sounds horrible, I'll keep my eye out for it.

Maybe because of a visual bug in the recent patches-- Sometimes an eureka actually happens, but fails to show on the screen? Maybe you shall double check your tech tree of these turns.

That's a different issue. It seems like every patch introduces more bugs than it solves...
