I worry that RDing the S&T forum will result in these threads being relegated to 3rd-page-status or worse. Then again, if a thread hasn't seen a comment in 6 months or more, perhaps it has earned that position?

Absolutely. If a thread gets no discussion, it's democracy pushing it off the front page.

That sort of change would mean I have to wade through OT on a regular basis again. :(

Well, not really, if we ported them here after they got lost, they'd pop up here with a bit of discussion!

So, maybe we plant a thread in OT [RD], once it's matured we transplant it to this greenhouse where it will be lovingly curated like a bonsai?

The thread starter could report it when he felt it was time to move.

I'm cool with that. Honestly, I think it's a great idea.

Awesome thing about DDG on Android is that it's fully supported with Tor's Orbot integration. So if you have rooted your device all your Web traffic runs through Tor network.

We now have a physics question thread in OT. Let's see how it goes.

    Futuristic Engineering goal:

Modify the mean surface temperature of the Earth by increasing the mean axis of the elliptical orbit around the Sun.

    How would we accomplish this?

Go to the Kuiper belt (or the Oort cloud) and do some orbital mechanics to find objects that with the right nudge would hit the earth at the right angle.

If you are limited to objects that won't destroy too much life on earth, this might take a while, though.

What about just increasing the Earth's orbital radius by a tiny percent?
