Today's victory took me 334 turns due to making two terrible mistakes.
1. My government plaza got flooded. Yes, really. I had a +6 campus on the coast so I put my government plaza next door. Didn't know that I would lose it if the tile flooded. Had the whole thing built. When the tile flooded, the plaza was gone. Didn't realize until I tried to use the builder charge to get my exoplanet expedition going. Maybe you could call this two mistakes.
2. Not launching the moon mission soon enough. One of the well-known players once advised that it isn't necessary to drop the spaceport as soon as it's available. You have time since you'll get the prior missions done well before having the science to launch the exoplanet expedition. Although they are much better than me, I beg to differ. Getting the moon launch reveals the whole map. I had terrible relationships due to my neighbors invading me multiple times and me responding by taking their cities so I had parts of the map unrevealed. If I had the visibility to place my spies better, it wouldn't have been so close. I didn't think I was going to win. The AI was *very* close to victory. It's only because they are brain-dead and don't speed up their expeditions that I pulled this off.
