Scince and wasted beakers

I noticed that early in the game, when you produce more beakers than needed to complete a tech, the rest is carried over to the next tech. But later in the game, it seems that the reaminder is lost. Anyone know when does that start to happen?

It depends on which city is putting you "over the top" on your tech research and how many beakers it produces. The beakers from each city are applied to only one tech, so if you've got a city producing 50 beakers and only need 10 more for your current tech, 40 beakers from that city are wasted. However, any cities processed after that one will go to your next tech. I am guessing you have a SSC in the first city you put down, and it is producing the bulk of your beakers. It is probably this city that is throwing you "over the top" each tech so any extra beakers produced in you SSC are lost. Early in the game, you don't have a dominant SSC, so almost any city is equally likely to be the one that puts you over the top, and when that happens, you get the beakers from the remaining cities applied to your next tech.

Oh, thanks a lot. I just played an OOC (badly :p), and I guess that I wasted A LOT of resources not knowing this...
The beakers from cities are applied in the order they were founded?
So if a caravan puts the beakers to the max, the city's research for the next turn will carry on to the next tech?

Actually, if you are playing OCC, I don't think this is true. I thought you had to get at least one beaker from a city in order to complete a tech - if you fill the beaker box with trade, but set your science to zero with no einsteins you will not complete the tech.

I think this means that in OCC it is impossible to learn a tech and carry beakers onto the next tech in the same turn.

Then again, I could be wrong.

Reverse order. Most recently created city is processed first, your first city is processed last.

That's correct. I thought he was asking that the city would complete the currently being researched tech since freight deliveries alone can not and then he could carry on to the next tech. Not that the actual beakers being produced by the city would carry over.

After re-reading his post, I think he was asking what you answered.

Thanks a lot for your replies, now a lot of things are clearer to me :D
