    PDs here in the U.S. really want to hire black cops because they are the only ones allowed to shoot black criminals without the whole city crying "racism!"

    Ugh, good point.....

    Why does it matter what color people are? Isn't that in itself racism? You should always get the best for the job, whether they're white or black or whatever. It's ******** to a turn down a better qualified white person for a job just to put a black one in, and vice versa.

    Big deal, prehaps no qualified people from any minority groups applied to be a member of the police. The best person for the job should get it regardless of other irreleavant factors such as colour of skin.

    Nonsense, it is about the fact that it will take time for a significant number of ethnic minorities to rise through the ranks to Scotland Yard. It should not be a condemnation of Scotland Yard, nor should their be a cry for positive discrimination advancing ethnic minority officers quicker, simply the truth that at the ground level there isn't a proportionate no. of ethnic officers entering and they don't stay in for long.

    Given further time for society and the effects of encouraging ethnic police recruitment and then the positions in advanced bodies of police will change in ethnic composition.


    Looks like Norlamand is having a bash Britain day...

    Well Britain is a white majority country so one would expect alot of Europeans in the Police force. Speaking to cops over here there isn't many ethnic minority candidates for the police who want to join (lots in the army though). Immigrants here seem to be either wealthy (to get into the country) and have better things to do than be a cop, or are poor refugee types who are unqualified to be a cop.

    In the end, whether or not you're going to have equality in any given workforce depends on how many people from minority X want to join that workforce. Do all the outreach programs you like--the only way you can guarantee minority enrollment is by force.

    And, somehow the idea of forcing people to become policemen doesn't sound like a good idea to me. :)

    The Police is very interested in getting immigrants among their ranks, and this whole zulu vs norlamand thing is childish. Why don't you just make a UK vs US thread and battle it out there?

    Positive discrimination is as bad as the negative one. People should be hired accordingly to their qualification, not the colour of their skin or the shape of their eyes.

    Depends what you need. If you need a policeman to be a good example to the ghetto kids, if you need a policeman who understands the immigrant society, if you need a policeman who easily can go undercover in those environments, then a immigrant is more qualified for that job than a native.

    Yes, of course. Still, it is the qualification what matters. I am only against some quotas saying "we must have 5 white cops, 3 black cops, 2 asian cops" and so on.

    People from minorities are desperately needed in the policeforces of all countries, both to combat discrimination and racism within the forces, which ranges from existing to rampant and to have officers who are better able to deal with people from minorities who tends to be wary and suspicous of the police.
