Hey friends!

We have been putting so much effort into analyzing and figuring out every possible civ, every wonder, every leader and unique.

But, I ask, what about the scout's dog? Where is all the meticulous research and speculation surrounding our good boys and girls?

This is the thread for giving dogs their deserved head scritches and belly rubs. If, as suggested, scouts may have different breeds of dogs, LET'S FIGURE OUT WHICH CIV/REGION HAS WHICH DOG BREED!

I'll start with my prediction for Mesoamerica/Latin America. The Xoloitzcuintli is the Mexican state dog, and is recognized as having remained relatively unchanged genetically for thousands of years. It is a breed prone to hairlessness, giving it a distinctively "bald" look with often some small tufts of hair on its head, paws, ridge and/or tail.

The reason why I think this breed is a very good candidate for Latin America, is because the model can very comfortably represent very related dogs of Southern America, namely the Peruvian Orchid and the Argentine Pila (also hairless), which appear to share some heritage with the Xolo. This group of hairless dogs are, in my opinion, quintessentially the best "idea" of a shared canine history across all of Latin America.

(dookit dat shweetch fashe)

Let's see what other cool dog breeds people can propose!

EDIT: Opening this thread up to cats and other animals because why was I ever so speciesist. Bad Jester, bad boy.

If breeds are enough different anatomically that it would involve separate animations rather than just separate skins, I doubt they'd do it.

And I suspect this little Frenchman would have a significantly different anatomical structure than your Xoloitzcuintli:

Not a very good scout, you say? Maybe. But it could have a special ability where it automatically predisposes Independent Peoples to friendliness.

I think it's too early to tell how much effort they will want to put into skeleton sizing/proportions and animations, but maybe we will see evidence either way at some point.

I still think there are plenty of doggo options to be speculating about that have a more traditional "hound" physique as well, we have plenty of space to mull around in.

Bichon would be amazing for the Franch in my book. Because they are dog.

The founder's edition includes a new scout pet skin, maybe it is the eagle seen in some video.
ALL THE PETS!

Offhandedly, some ideas:

Egypt/Middle East could easily get an Afghan hound, an extremely old breed. Saluki would also be a strong choice.

SS Africa, at least part of it, screams basenji to me.

At least part of Europe would want a greyhound (related to the Afghan hound) I think, since we see many European variants and the most iconic version is the Italian greyhound.

And chow-chows would be a good Chinese option (which look juuuuust enough like akita inus and jindos they could probably double for Japan and Korea).

And the pariah dog could work for India.

My first dog was a bichon. Got him in 2001, he died in 2016. A good life.
I'm glad you gave him a good life. Statistically speaking, it is more special to give one of the 900 million dogs or 600 million cats on this planet a good life than it is to put out the 8 billionth human baby.

For England the labrador retriever <3
Is best choice, because dog. A very iconic and loving breed indeed.

Egyptian mau or bust.
Also is best choice, because cat. And of course we NEED a Siamese cat with their cool temperature-color Himalayan gene.

It looked like Europe gets something like a German Shepard and some of the East Asian scouts appeared to have a large fluffy dog like a Tibetan Mastiff.

Of course one scout had an Eagle in the Nintendo video. I hope that's widely available.

As for additional druthers, I'd hope someone in Africa or the Mideast can get a Cheetah.

I just want the hawk, really.
I just want to play as hawks, really. Or at least bird-people. American media has given me reason to believe that should be a thing.
