screen resolution #2

Hey guys,
I want to get the game running on my laptop, but it looks to me there is no possible way, since it only runs at 800x600. I want a confirmation on this. Is there any way I can get the game running at this resolution, or is it possible in any way to get the game running in my laptop? Thanks!

Are you sure that your laptop will only run at one resolution? Most should be capable of different resolutions

There may be some sort of flag in the .ini file that you can change, but not too sure on that.... Try searching these forums or even infrogames technical support on that one.

If you add the line:

KeepRes=1

to your Civilization3.ini file in the Civilization III folder then your resolution will stay the same as normal. I have a laptop and do this as otherwise it nags me about "non-optimal resolutions" and, to be honest, I like to see a bigger map (more tiles displayed) - I have a 1400*1050 screen.

It's in the 1.29f readme file, about the third or fourth item in fact.

I'm currently trying to get the game running on my wife's 800 x 600 resolution computer. I added the 'KeepRes=1' to the config file, but I still have problems.

My problem is this: When I start the game on her computer, the title graphic shows up and the CD starts spinning. Then the title disappeares and nothing happens (I just see the desktop again). :-( If anyone has any idea why, I'd love to hear it. What sucks is I bought the game just for her so we could play multi-player.

EDIT: I just found a way to play in 800 x 600 mode, but now I can't see the full menu. Looks like I'm going to have to upgrade my wife's monitor.
