Just thought I'd post this screenshot as regards a 'peacekeeping' operation in my current game, which might be of interest, and which uses a heavily modded version of the game (45 extra units, extra wonders/buildings, new techs etc.)
I just added an Airbase 'unit' to my mod. (immobile, but it has a one-time airdrop to position it, plus no defence value so it can be captured) and it's been handy in this game. I'm playing as the English, and Germany (in a Mutual Protection Pact with me and France) has one city left (Konigsberg), after a long bitter war with the Romans. In an effort to stop Rome getting Konigsberg, and more importantly it's Saltpeter and Aluminium (which the city is built on) I've used my Right of Passage agreement with Germany to build an airbase on their territory - which is currently housing one Hawker Hunter fighter and a Tornado bomber squadron - as well as starting to encircle the city with Special Forces and some of my Guerilla units.
Meanwhile, Persia and Russia are at war just south of here, with Russia poised to capture the Persian city of Avaris, which is just north east of my coastal base at Port Elizabeth (which is sitting on top of some Dye resources, left over after the Romans trashed Hamburg and it's borders shrank - I leapt in and built a city in the gap, as it's the only luxury I hadn't got!) Needless to say it's chock full of troops, aircraft and armour!
Funnily enough, the border between Port Elizabeth and Rome's Hamburg has jumped back and forth as temples and libraries were built by me and the AI - I rush built everything I could that would add culture points and give me back the second Dye unit you can see - which I'm now trading BACK to Rome for 30 gold per turn
Anyway, it got me thinking about peacekeeping and the hope that this gets included in Civ4 in a far more expanded fashion - so that if you build United Nations you can, say, Broker Peace Talks, or send in special UN forces to police border zones between angry neighbours. Also, it'd be good if there was scope for Strategic Arms Limitation and/or Reduction talks (see my previous thread on The most nukes you've ever built!
Any thoughts on this? Anyone else been involved in 'peacekeeping'?
