(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - One Seattle elementary school is calling Easter eggs “Spring spheres" instead, they say, to take religion out of the annual egg hunt.

They weren't fooling any of the kids though, who apparently still all called the colored treats "Easter eggs".

The city's parks department has also removed the word "Easter" from its ads for egg hunts.

I am appalled that liberal states are deliberately destroying the time honored religious institutions through the use of underhanded tactics such as this to sidestep common place tradition. That they have apparently been doing so for over a decade now. And that the Superintendents seem to have now eliminated any possible challenges against them in the foreseeable future.

If the atheists want to create their own atheist "madarassas" in the US, they should have to pay for them out of their own pockets. I think the time has come to eliminate all tax breaks for any sort of religious purpose.

Once this current wave of reactionary control of the Seattle Superintendents has finally ended, we need to consider a constitutional amendment to specifically demand permanent respect to harmless traditions. The concessions made in the original Constitution to get the more fundamentally religious states to join the union have created far too many loopholes and inconsistencies in our laws.

Easter eggs have .... nothing to do with the Bible. I thought it was some pagen thing. Either way, its still kind of stupid.

So a school is obeying the letter of the Constitution and that offends you? :p

I'll agree to call it spring spheres as long it refers to these spheres:

Paganism is not religious?

Religion should definitely be kept out of schools but renaming Easter Eggs is pretty stupid. It's not like they had anything to with Christianity in the first place.

Since when do schools have Easter egg hunts anyway? None of mine ever did.

Besides, it was apparently the decision of one elementary school principal.

This will change absolutely nothing. Even after the school renamed Christmas Break to Winter Break, everyone still calls it Christmas Break.

BTW here's the real story of what happened for anybody who is actually interested:

A sophomore at a local private high school thinks an effort to make Easter politically correct is ridiculous.
Jessica, 16, told KIRO Radio's Dori Monson Show that a week before spring break, the students commit to a week-long community service project. She decided to volunteer in a third grade class at a public school, which she would like to remain nameless.

"At the end of the week I had an idea to fill little plastic eggs with treats and jelly beans and other candy, but I was kind of unsure how the teacher would feel about that," Jessica said.

She was concerned how the teacher might react to the eggs after of a meeting earlier in the week where she learned about "their abstract behavior rules."

"I went to the teacher to get her approval and she wanted to ask the administration to see if it was okay," Jessica explained. "She said that I could do it as long as I called this treat 'spring spheres.' I couldn't call them Easter eggs."
Leave it to Fox News to get it completely wrong.

I swear you guys wait for small isolated incidents like these to get extremely offended.

We could use more godlessness in this country, to offset all the godly stupidity.
