SecuROM DRM rootkits

I certainly hope for a big lawsuit. For all I care, they'll be bankrupted by the first DRM lawsuit they get. DRM is a complete and utter failure because it hurts the wrong people.

No, they are not hurting the pirates with it - they probably already have cracked the DRM and are running a game version free of that garbage. It only hurts the honest users who run a legal version (thus with DRM) and subsequently have to put up with all the DRM crap, which can go as far to 'phone home' or locking honest users out of the game they should legally be able to play.

One day, people who have honestly bought a copy of the game will be drawn to the pirated version because it's free of DRM... and that has probably already happened too many times to count.

One day, producers themselves will realize the failure of DRM, and scrap it from their software. That will be a happy day.

DRM is a big mess. I don't mind cereal codes, but thats about it.

I heard sometimes on audio CD's, disabling autoplay would turn off DRM. For some of them.

Some companies have begun realising that DRM only hurts them, and have begun to not use it. Unfortunately, that number is still very small.

aimeeandbeatles, what is it with you and cereal codes? :p

I'm worried that the sales of Spore will only encourage EA. I myself have added my cash to this problem

It seems they ignore what is actually being said all over the web, including their own forums.

:(

Send the disc to Will Wright's house with a letter reading: "This game sucks."

Then pirate it.

The thing is, it doesn't suck so much, if you don't expect too much from it. I love having creative tools like you have in Spore, while I'm not actually into gaming so much. And I'm sure its only just beginning. I'd really like to see what it will eventually become, after several sequals and countless X-packs...

Also, I lack hi-speed internets. I have old technology. So I'm stuck with actually buying games :)

I don't blame maxis for this DRM stuff, I blame EA corporate greedmongers. The kind of people who are screwing up the whole world right now.

Then break the disc into small shards, send it to EA's corporate office with a note reading "My disc is broken. How do I uninstall SecuROM?"

Then find a pirated disc somewhere (e.g. have a friend download for you.)
