Seemingly odd performance issue.

I just installed CIV on my laptop, and the game runs quite slowly despite that most of my computer's specs are way above minimum, except for the video card which is exactly the minimum. I just think it's odd that having a 64 MB video card would cause the game to be so irritatingly slow. I don't even run other programs while playing. I'm not a computer buff, but the problem still seems odd. Also, I get a message on the title screen that says my system is under minimum specs and that the game won't run (not true, obviously). Aside from getting a better video card, is there anything I can do to speed up the game (graphics settings are already at minimum)?

EDIT: Nevermind. Installing BTS and the latest patch seems to have fixed the problem enough to make the game playable. Weird, but I'll take what I can get.
