I think that it woudl be nice to be able to choose what one of you defenders defend. Sometimes you would rather sacrifice a conscript unit then lose one of your elite defenders. It ould have to be something that you could turn off if you wanted, ut it would be nice to have the option ot intercede and selecte a defender. Also maybe they could give one tyoe of unit say a sub or marine the option to attack selected defenders. For example special forces units often bypass the heavy defenders and stick and convouys and such.

Good idea. However, I don't know, but that sounds like it would be difficult for Firaxis to add at this point. Too bad they didn't add it from the outset. You had that option in SMAC.

Hmmm....I always thought that the way AI select the defender is very logical. First it look at defense then it look at hp. So a unit that has the highest defense and hp will be choosen as the defender. 
I can understand the frustration when your elit unit die from defending. But then you don't expect the dying unit to rush out and defend while the full strenght attack unit just sit back and watch right?
