Sent back to initial menu

I have recently run into a problem. I will resume a game and in the process of the tedious repeating of the initial message I will be sent back to the initial menu! This is annoying because I can't get back to the message to resume the game. It is a seemingly endless loop! Any suggestions?

Are you playing with mods? I believe that a conflict between mods can cause this problem.

Also, took a while to post your first message... Over 11 years.
