Sep 1 HOF Update

Has anyone heard why it takes more than 3 months to make an update. If someone is overburdened than someone else could be found to help out. At a certain point I must question a board that will not see updates for half a year at a time.... especially when July 1 update is still classified as "new".

GOOD Question!! :goodjob:

Answer: Private Message Thunderfall........You too, General Joey........You too, ALL Lurkers! (It's called "The Squeaky Wheel Syndrome"!)

Trust me, when in doubt, start at the "TOP"! :)

I have already PMed TF (like weeks ago!), BUT, in the interests of "Progress", I CANNOT reveal his response! :mischief:

I say we have a solution :
Short messages and long sigs for every depressed HOFer! :mischief:

I've seen Aeson browsing this forum off and on...so it's not like he's dissapeared.

We know... ;)

It's just that he has no access to civ3 until the end of december, IIRC, so he can't do the game checking required for updating the HoF.

If that is the case he should be assisted by someone who has access. I still think the time between updates is "historic"... like a warrior moving 1 tile in 50 years...

There has to be a better way....
Why not just update the scores based on submissions and "out" cheaters later?

Noooo!!
There are too many "false" submissions - mostly new people, or even error input or new high by the same player.

Things should stick, but december is a date... at least now we have such a thing... do we??

You have my vote! :goodjob:

IMHO, the current situation hurts the credibilty of the HOF......AND the CFC site......one could get the impression that TF doesn't care about the HOF!

What's next?....Will CFC be around tomorrow?

Bad idea IMHO. I think it's better to have a slow process that works well, than a fast one that has to be corrected later. The second way creates too much confusion.
It's just an unfortunate circumstance. I am sure Aeson will get the HoF updated when he has access to civ again (it's not like this is a repeatedly happening situation. Before he had to leave his game-computer behind we got updates twice a month. We never had a better/higher update frequency in the HoF, so let's just be patient...

I do not consider myself any longer the HOF mod. I asked to be replaced back in June, but no one wants the job. I offered to continue updating the HOF when I could in the interim, but the reaction of some of the more active HOF members have caused me to not have any wish to expend my time and energy in doing so.

This thread should never have been posted. Eman had already PM'd me the exact same questions which I had answered. I have no qualms about being questioned as to why something is, but asking again in public, feigning ignorance, is obviously just a ploy of his to try to either embarrass or harrass me into doing something which I had already told him I wasn't able to do, or an implication that I am lying about the situation and could have done it if I was pressed hard enough. Either is unacceptable to me given the voluntary nature of this work.

I am sorry to those who have waited patiently, but there will not be any further HOF updates by me.

Aeson, first let me thank you for all the work you put into the HoF. Despite the current unfortunate circumstances, this place had new life breathed into it after the previous moderator.

Second, as far as no one wanting the job, there's a little dilemna! I'd happily check game submissions, process them and update the tables, but I'm not qualified to be a site moderator (don't ask, long time ago).

I guess the key question is, does the HoF Moderator have to also be a CFC Moderator?

EDIT: Let me further add, that if needed, I would agree to my scores being removed from the HoF for sake of objectivity.

No, it doesn't have to.

I've replied to your PM. :)

I am really sorry to hear that! I though (and still think) you did a great job.
Thanks for all the great work you did for the HoF, like adding the new categories and revising the submission sytem as well as the great periodic updates we got from you until the recent developments that left you without civ3 access. Thanks!!! :)

PS. I do hope you'll continue to be active behind the screens in the GOTM, as there is great need for some voices saying the system (Jason scoring, etc.) works fine, as opposed to all the others (non-staff members) wanting to mod a great game into a mathematics competition.... Please?

Don't do that! You played long and hard for those scores, so they should stay on!
Perhaps you should just let any new submissions to the HoF that you make be checked by someone else...

Had we known this back in June, or even somewhere in between, then this thread would not exist, and people would have known what's going on.
We all appreciate you and this voluntary job, but you COULD announce this publically.
Now that you do, you see many are interested.
Just pitty for the months that have went away.
Can we please put the past behind us? Aeson's being extremely helpful to me in starting on the file submissions, which means he's playing a significant role in the future of this Hall. Considering his current efforts to ease my transition into a staff position, I would like to think everyone would be as supportive of him as they are me.

Aeson's past and present work is on a voluntary basis, as is mine. The Hall of Fame exists to help us all enjoy a game. I can't/won't censor anyone, but I would like to think we can focus on being pleasant, because quite frankly this is all supposed to be about fun.

As far as the months that went away, it was simply a lack of updates. So far as I know at this point ALL the submitted files are sitting in the email just waiting to get checked. We probably haven't lost anything, we just need to catch up.

I'm sorry to see Aeson go, especially with an apparent bad taste in his mouth. My sincerest apologies for any contribution to that that I may have made. Still hope to see around here or 'poly, even if it's just once in a while to say hello. :)
