    There is a group of 3 Persian units either coming at Pasargadae from the west or headed towards Arbela – I put a spear and axe on the hill to prevent them from claiming that spot

    Decide to leave science at 30% -7gpt to speed up Optics – we need to contact the rest of the world – this delays upgrading more maces but shaves 6 turns off the research time

    drop off a few fresh troops by Arbela – attack and kill 2 Persian galleys (losing 1 of ours) after unloading – they destroyed our fishing spot

    WW is kicking in – we’re running –20gpt now to maintain 30% research – a few turns ago we were at +4gpt

    I start some troops towards Susa but we are really not in a position to take it. We only have 2 maces near the front – I just landed 2 more maces by Arbela but they will take 5 turns to get to the front. Then decide it’s time for peace. We need to get enough maces across the straight so that we can move fast on Cyrus. Currently with LB’s in defense we are fighting 5 or 6 attack value against a fortified 6, without city bonus. We need many more maces to get the job done.

    Make peace for 20 gold and world map – he still would not give Feudalism – this drops us to only –3gpt

    World map reveals that Huayna is not very far away to our NE – we need to be careful about them landing units

    Jewish Mission making it’s way to Tarsus
    there is a galley with 2 more maces – can either unload and join the more northern attack group or make it’s way down to Tarsus to unload, this will give us 8 maces in the Persian theater



    Optics is due in 4 so we can get a carvel out to meet more civs and hopefully pull some trades. India continues to be huge and will be a problem with our cultural expansions in former Persian lands. I’m also concerned about a possible cultural victory on their part, if we don’t make good progress.

    We need to keep an eye on Huayna since he is close and make plans for sending troops eastward. Since he is our AW civ it might help to wipe him out as quick as possible.


    Not sure if I ended the war too quickly, but the WW was setting in and we did not have the proper troops (ie maces) in place. A few more maces and confining the cats to bombard only should give us enough troops to finish off Persia. They are down to 4 cities, one of which is Sidon (by our silver) which will auto raze if attacked.

    I probably started it too soon. I should have waited until we had more Maces in the Persian theater before cranking up war again. :blush:

    I was wondering why you changed the specialists in Moscow? I hired Priests because I thought the objective was to gain a Great Prophet to build the Jewish Shrine in Novgorod so we could pick up the income from the Indian cities that are Jewish.

    I think our next objective, once Cyrus is gone, should be our Incan enemy. We will need Astronomy, but what military tech will we need? How can we find out what tech level he has?

    Looking at the line graphs, the Incans are doing well with Gold, of course, but poorly in manufactured goods, crop yields and are equal to us in power and culture.

    India is a threat culturally.

    I think the best way to attack Susa is from India lands, if we can get there? Persepolis is vulnerable by sea. But we'll need more galleys for that.

    Some comments:

    I don’t think we have to expect a cultural victory by Gandhi before the 20th century. Of course we should have completed a domination by then.

    I don’t think we want to keep Sidon. The growth potential is too low to justify the extra upkeep. Lets bring some maces near it and raze the city with the next war.

    We need to prioritise research. After the demise of Cyrus we won’t be able to wage war before we have astronomy. So emphasise commerce more and ease up on military units, our forces are quite sufficient to wipe out Cyrus before we reach astronomy.
    This will look different of course if Vitcos would get border expansion. I think we then could reach Capac with out astronomy. Best to have a galley there to test it if it should occur.

    Research after optics should be astronomy, feudalism and guilds to bring us knights and ocean transportation.

    Our workers are roading again. Why o why o why??? Please do keep improving lands. Btw. Irrigating a plains tile is not often advantageous. It only gives 1 hammer. It’s far better to chop/cottage the grass/forest tiles.

    We should build some more temples now to battle future war weariness.

    Thebes:
    Should prioritise working the cottages more. With Novgorod operational it’s not necessary for Thebes to prioritise production. After building the mace we could build the temple and then research or wealth.

    Memphis:
    Harbour, temples, research/wealth

    Heliopolis:
    Temples, monasteries. Why is there an engineer hired? Don’t build a farm, when the engineer is getting back to work we have enough food.

    Petersburg:
    The farms can now be switched to cottages. Builds: harbour, temple, monasteries.

    Moscow:
    Why are the priests replaced by engineer/scientist? This is very damaging to our effort to get a jewish shrine. Building monasteries and working the cottages!!!

    Yakutsk:
    Excellent. After the court, we could do with a market. Lets get some cottages near Yakutsk.

    Novgorod.
    Last cottage is better as a farm. Don’t work the sea. Build the FP.

    Hurry the court!!!! Then probably a market to build.

    Elephantine:
    The forge doesn’t look useful. A market is better. Work the cottages first and then the mined hills.

    And Thebes could build a confucian missionary or 2 to bring to Moscow. A third priest will bring us the much needed shrine a lot earlier.

    btw: although this may sound funny for a dedicated production city, but we really have to build a market also in Novgorod. That's because Novgorod is the jewish holy city and the market will enlarge the shrine income.

    I'm sorry, but I'm out of this game for a while. My wife is job hunting and occupied the comp yesterday. When I finally got to it, my internet conn was down due to a problem with the network card :gripe:
    I caved in at 12:30 AM and gave up. That means I haven't finished my turn set, nor will I have the time to, cause I'm taking the family to Denmark on vacation on Sunday :cry:

    I really don't know what to do with the few turns I've got. We haven't discussed anything, so might be for the best if I just keep quiet and the next player starts from the previous save. I don't know when I can get my comp online again. Sorry guys.

    I will do the best I can to hand over a fully armed and ready to fly Egyptian rocket for the Persians. This stubborness is killing me.

    As for a cultural victory by Gandhi, according to sources at Realms Beyond, the AI does not target a cultural victory. They have been seen by accident on the more bizarre map types, however.

    Well, I've been on and off the internet for around 5 secs a time the last day or so :(
    I reinstalled my network card (I actually removed it from it's slot and put it back in again, also deleted and reinstalled drivers) and my computer seems stable once more, but it's 1 AM and I'm leaving for Denmark at 6 AM...
    I don't know whether Bede has picked up the save or not, but suspect he has, so I won't post the turns I managed before disaster :rolleyes: struck.

    I probably overbuilt our military but I wanted to crush the SoB with at least two SoD. It should be a cruise....

    Spent a couple of whips getting forges and courts in place.

    And all the mines are dug.

    And completely forgot about the missionaries to Moscow but did get the two priests working there.

    The save has been posted on the submissions page. I will post pictures and a detailed story tomorrow.
