Well, that is a great spot, let us settle there. Actually I would have settled there ASAP despite slowing down science. Maintenance is going to be 8 coins + 1 for each new citizen.

Without border expansions we cannot work sheep, so it is bronze->chop obelisk vs. poly. I think it depends on how fast we can build a worker. Remember, we need to build a few warriors first, it looks like there is a lot of free space. Need to do some calculations.

Yes, but I don't think we can afford building a worker now with raging barbs.

    Animals can't cross borders...

    The problem is:
We need several cities for building Palace but corruption kills us... I thought about give avay capital after buildind new Palace...
May be we could contact with somebody after borders expantion...

    Great start!

I wanted to propose mining next science ASA I saw the map, but you've got it from hut! Great job! :D
We might need no more own settlers in this part of the world, if only for copper/horse/stone grabbing.

I'd vote for Poly and fast worker - there will be no barb warriors before we get worker, and with mining he will become useful from the start.

Strategy note: with such great city CS-slingshot (with moving capital) might become an option again as we spend less effort on settlers/army at the start and have 3 (!) commerce resources, not to mention 2 oasises and cottageable land. That means, with 1 commerce resource paying off our distance fee, we will have more than double commerce (and thus - research) comparing to AI, offsetting even their bonus to research speed at Monarch. This will give us early research lead, which is necessary for the slingshot.

Edit: btw, I'd recommend mining gold after gems (or even before) as it will give us extra 2 hammers to build antibarbarian shield for protecting our improvements and is easier to protect.

Also, can we have a screen with new islands, please?

I disagree to Obormot about worker. I think we have to build it immediately. Tech to learn IMHO Hunting-Archery. Cos I think seeing such lot of resources we have few chances to have copper nearby. While barbs are not dangerous we'll build a worker and at that moment archery (or may be bronze working) will be close to be learnt. I think Polytheism will be impossible because if we would settle now and would build a worker it will be teaching for about 25 turns.

Animals are not a problem, the problem is that with raging barbs we may very well face barbarian warriors very early. Maybe we need to play a test game to find out when exactly barb warriors appear with such settings. The grassland gem mine is awesome indeed.

I think that if the land in the north can be colonised, we should go for it and build the forbidden palace on the mainland. At first corruption will be very painfull, but after the FP is built we'll be in an awesome position.

As a variant of decision - we can build two settlers, found two cities at the same time and immediately start to build Palace.

CB, I'd rather not go for hunting. As I saw in nonreload Inca emperor at CFR, combat-I-promoted aggressive warriors are an excellent meatshield against barb warriors if stationed in the woods or wooded hills. We can expect barb archers aroung 2500 BC or even later, and now we need to expand our borders.

Just wanted to repeat that I agree with Obormot - Polytheism is next, then maybe we should think about AH to use sheep (which are abundant here) and reveal horses or bronze for slavery and copper-revealing. With that great number of bonus tiles we do not really need pottery, if only for granaries to increase slavery's efficiency.

I think we must learn hunting or bronze. Just becouse absolutely dont believe in Polytheism. I think Poly is just spending time for nothing now. If not hunting than I vote for bronze. I'm sure we'll can't hold the raging barbs with just a warriors.

I feel strongly against going for archery, I don't think we really need it. In my test games I survived with just 4 warriors easily up to about 1200BC - then axemen appear. The only question is can we delay those 4 warriors untill after the worker or not.

Well, poly may not be 100%, but in my test games I got it 2 times out of 3 on different maps. And in those games I had much slower science: settled on turn one and had no oasis..

It ain't for nothing, it is for hooking up extra riverside gem, oasis, later - sheep and rice. It is for extra happiness to use these resources. It also helps to expand our borders faster and thus decrease fog-of-war area near our borders which generates barbs.

Then she should have had the religion by now. So we might have good chances in the race as she went for some other science.

For nothing not because its useless but because I dont believe in reality of it. I think Stonehenge could be much better than avanturistic attempt to Polytheism.

If we're facing Industrious civ especially with stone we will lose this fight. And we cannot build Henge and at the same time army to protect our lands. Poly is thus more reliable as it eats our coins, not hammers.

Dynamic, according to the roster, CB is next in the line, not Obormot. Just in case so that two people do not play simultaneously.

What a lucky break with that Mining! We have the makings of a super research city there.

As per our pre-game plan, we try for Hinduism if there's no stone.

Let's trust Obormot's testing and our lucky stars. Remember, teams who play it safe don't win - they finish in the top half. The winner is somebody who took a risk and it paid off. (Of course the bottom half are those who gambled and lost.)

I say we settle in place and build a worker first.

We have stone at islands - Dynamic writes - but we need masonry for quarry, sailing for galley to bring the worker, and I'm not sure when overseas resources would be available for our mainland - Astronomy, I believe.

I think we can delay the final decision to analyse deeper the developmnet strategy. We don't have to finish first to finish best ;) akots, Dynamic, Ptits and ToSla haven't said about their development preferences yet.

We should have a decent shot at getting hindu, but of course its not guranteed. Normally I don't like the early religion gamble, actually I never went for an early religion before. But in this special case the reward is so big that I am tempted to try it :) I need to think about it more though before making a final decision. I like the idea though: research polytheism and build worker first after 10 turns of wandering - what a crazy start!

As for the roster, I don't know which is the correct one, but I would like to play now, because I am going on vacation next week and I won't have civ access for two weeks (but I'll be able to read the forum and comment occasionally).
