I used the knights to pillage the towns and villages that lay scattered across the baron lands... Other than that... nothing special... Nearly only things I faced was inside cities... with Pikes inside those cities too :(

So I had to send in a bunch of Trebs and catapults first, many at favorable odds luckely... even killing their openents... even one fight at 30% or some sort odd low one... :D then finaly after CR Grens and CR Mace then finaly eventually then come the cavalry :(

Do you want me to do anything special like post the save 1 turn before victory or just finish it?

I am not going to look at the other threads but may try an alternative game...

Alltho I am spoiled offcourse...

Things I would do differently...
- Get IW sooner
- Not settle York in that bloody jungle untill IW, probably go for the coventry spot sooner.
- Not settle Hastings so early so far out... and maybe get that fish city up north or the cow/stone city... niether of which we ended up building eventho they be strong spots.

These to me are our biggest mistakes.... I think beeing blinded by the gold maybe?

Anyone else care to pass judgement on our play?

I think we did fairly well, being we haven't played together before. I hope we stay together, too, because I learned some good things. I think we could have taken our island faster... was domination the key to winning quickly?

I think we can talk strategy even more, that'd be my thought. And as I learn more, I can suggest more, too.
 
Excelent. I think something fun to try in a replay is meeting the other ai earlier, and possibly forcing them into a war mentality instead of tech. Our isolationist play worked well, but i wonder if now that meeting ragnar would have made him an even easier target?. Not too likely, but interesting to see.

It seems bee-lining astro was the way to go, from what has been spoiled outside of the SGOTM forums. Even if we hadnt cleared the mainland, we could have VPP over there disrupting settlers and resources, and having galleons early we could prevent the island settling which slowed us a bit.

Well played however, and as always i learned something from this game. Heres to sgotm7 and doing even better!
 
What slowed us the most I think was our early losses tho... It is a catapult effect.
Losing one axe early, makes us say 10 turns later to a certain AI, which causes 2 turns delay and 2 extra units lost, which in turn causes additional 10 turns delay.... etc.

I expected astro to be key... I really must study up on getting Astro in 2000 BC ;)

What could we have done better, to finish earlier? Hmmm, no doing these mistakes everybody has done (like me finishing the HG too early, and delaying Hasting's Scientist, i.e. :D)


And for city-settling ... I think we should have claimed that western tip much earlier, build a library and feed 2 scientists with the fish, even if we would have met Ragnar. That should have giving us 2 scientists, for bulbing Astronomy much earlier!

Hmmm, if the others want to replay this game, or play another practice game, I would be in! I don't know how much time I could invest, as I also have joined another 'normal' SG-game ...

...but, I have never ever replayed a game so far ... I guess it's good to learn, and to improve your game-style, but I don't like the fact that before starting the game, I already know exactly what I'm up for ...
Because that's one of the most interesting parts of the game for me ... meeting my rivals, discovering the land and the ressources, and trying to adapt my strategy/game/goal to that ... something that's not possible if you replay a game ...

But as I said, if you're all interested, I'll join in ... maybe, you can convince me it's worth it :crazyeye:
