SGOTM 12 - Smurkz

I'm sorry it's been so quiet. Things have me swamped at work. I plan to start tonight and continue tomorrow as time permits. I will definitely post something tomorrow.

I played a couple of sessions last night and had some good acheivements:
  • Steel learned IBT 1365 and 1370.
  • Another leader generated
  • Captured the southern Celt town 1375.

Will be playing more today.

I played to 1415AD but work server isn't letting me upload still.

The Celts are gone with only a few losses.

As I was moving troops towards the dutch, two things happened: Dutch signed MPP with Arabia and Sumeria came up with 38gpt. I sold corporate Sumeria for the gpt. Then I asked the Arab musket to leave and they declared war on us. Then I used a handy frigate to bomb Arabian coastline resulting in Dutch declaring on us (lots of War Happiness gives WLTKD all around).

Parsargedae was easy to take as Cavs and Artillery could reach it from our territory. Then I moved the armies/artillery to the hill 2 East of Parsargedae. Took a turn on the road, then bombed and took the capitol. Meanwhile, troops were shipped to Babylon where artillery could hit the lower city. It was taken with the Medi Army and some infantry/Maces the same turn.

I've been trying to clean up things (MM for beakers, sell worthless buildings for cash and lower gpt loss). Most towns sacrificed sheilds in favor of beakers. I'm only building ships mostly.

The game is predicted to last 16 more turns. 4turns Mass, 5 turns Motor, 7turns flight. Paris is building a cruiser (2 turns) and then should start the Palace prebuild (14turns). I think if Flight takes 6 turns instead of 7, Paris build can be sped up by clearing the polution and putting citizens back on the hill/plains.

Game posted.

OK Niklas is MIA so I've got it and will try to finish up by Monday.

I'm not MIA, I thought to play this weekend like you said I should. :p

Sorry, I was expecting you to "get it" before. I played up to 1440AD.

Save is posted.

Germany brought troops towards York. I bought an MPP with them to try to prevent war. I also DOW on zulu, with several armys and infantry in transports. I MA Germany, Sumeria and Korea to keep them all occupied before I asked Germany to leave. They DOW despite our MPP??? I'm hoping we can get peace before the trading round. If we don't hurt them they may still vote for us.

The game should last 10 more turns. 5 for Flight, 5 for Motor, 10 turns for the palace (perfectly timed :) ), but the IBT is going to be very complicated. You must learn Motor, use the big picture to gift and trade with science civs until you can get Fission, get MPP or MA with everyone against Arabia, use F1 to switch palace to UN. Arabia may need to be allowed to capture beijing through carthage in a few turns so they have enough territory and population to be the opponent. Otherwise, Korea may be the candidate.

Alright, got it now. :)

I'll try to play up to the very end of it. I've done diplomacy races many times before, so the IBT won't cause me any trouble. The war situation is what may put me in trouble, but I'm sure I can handle it.

So, after looking at the save...

We want to take out the Zulu, but keep everyone else around, is that right? What's the purpose of the Infantry army in Greece, near Athens? What's the idea behind the shipment of cavalry off the Arabian coast?

Army escort to potential fur colony SW of Greece. Worker walking with Infantry escort.

Cavs are wave two to Zulu. Some boats we're ready to go and I figured the armies could hold their own.

Germany may have to go but we're running out of Free Fission chances. All else stay.

Good luck!

:woohoo:

Though I almost feel ashamed, coming in and just playing the final 10. There was little or no excitement to it, Zulu went down in 4 turns and Germany made peace soon after. The biggest risk was actually that Greece would do damage to the Arabs, but their cavalry retreated from the 2/3 rifle guarding Beijing on the final turn.

I got a MGL at one point, used him to rush Pentagon in Carthage just for the fun of it.

There was also little to the IBT since we pulled Fission ourselves. It was just a flip of the build, and voila. The only other bit of excitment was this:

Yep, on the final IBT Korea hit Germany, triggering the MPP I had signed with everyone just before pressing end turn. Oh well, we could do without one vote.

I find this image a bit amusing:

We totally dominate the game, and not a single town in the top five.

Here is the save after "Lemme play...". The save just before the IBT is attached in case any of you want to relive the glory of the last turn. :D

Thanks team for another well-played game, and CF in particular (that's an understatement). Without you I doubt we would have played to the end. I'm sorry I couldn't take more part in the game, but you all know the reasons. Hope to see you all again in one game or another. :)

Thanks for bringing it home Niklas. You deserve it after being captain all these SGOTMs. I hope your shoulder gets better so there's no decisions about playing or not playing.

Great Job everyone. Sorry zyxy has to be away during the win.

Thanks, Niklas, for finishing this marathon of a game.

:hatsoff: :high5: :band:

It was certainly more challenging than I had expected!

SGOTM 12 and MTDG 2
One thing that did slow us down in the Threesome Phase of the game was that xyzy and I were both serving as Turn Players in for our repective teams in Multi Team Democracy Game 2. I got drafted when the current Turn Player's computer had issues. During that time, MTDG 2 was moving pretty quickly, about a turn a day. For me, that was 90 minutes a day to just play that one turn (one turn = getting the save, playing the turn, sending the save and updating the various threads). Which left little time to really focus on this game. And this game needed a lot of focus.

  • All 31 civs
  • Diety level
  • water world
  • no new cities
  • the French powerhouse
  • naval transportation issues all the time

Then I lost the game disk, but zyxy was still Turn Player for his team....which really left only ControlFreak. :(

Well done, CF and Niklas! I'm glad you managed to complete this game :)!

So where did we end? One-but-last?

I think we were better than that because at least one of the earlier dates was a cultural loss to France. But still, we were way behind. I think our setbacks at Aztecs and then at France hurt us a lot. I'm also second guessing our decisions to leave Korea, Persia and Babylon alone. We could have had much more productive land, much earlier. (Easy to say since Niklas pulled Fission for ourselves.)

Hey, I arrived just to see the end of it, I see. I guess I just HAVE to see the final results, don't I.

I think we were better than that because at least one of the earlier dates was a cultural loss to France.
:dubious: Did I overlook or forget that? :hmm:

Who lost by culture?

Or was this the (wrong) explanation of our (Spooks) finishing date you still got in mind? :smug:

Anyway, congrats on the (late) finish. I appreciate you still got this one to a successful end.
