SGOTM 12 - tao

I set all cities to wealth, and hired many scientists. Don't forget to reassign scientists to taxmen on the last turn of research, we might need gold to buy Fission. We are making around 1100bpt with around 50 scientists.

Update on who likes us:

Furious:
Germany
Annoyed:
France
Persia
Russia
Zulu
Cautious:
Carthage
Polite:
iroquois
Arabia
Greece

It looks like the next 10 turns are a race to research. With the game potentially finishing so quickly I'm not sure about taking on France now. But I suppose we should start looking at the vote. Persia looks like our rival, Germany however is now Furious with us. Is that recoverable or do they have to go?

They declared on us about 15 turns ago. I made peace with them about 5 turns later. We did not raze any of their cities. Ig we engage them in an alliance vs. Persia, IMHO they will at least abstain in the vote. And they are scientific. And Persia is at war with Korea and I see a chance that Korea gets killed. And we should not loose 2 scientific civs.

We need 6 votes: us, Iroquois, Arabia, Greece, Carthage, 1 of Russia Zulu.

Please note how attitude improved the last 10 turns because of donations and frequent map trading.

I think alliance vs Persia and MPP's with all civs upon entering MA should solve the problem.
I'd say no more wars, just 17 turns left till MA, just clear pollution and press enter, we won't improve our tech rate, that's the fastest rate we can have. We will learn MP, MT in 5, Flight in 7 (maybe in 6 if we can get around 30 more scientists, join workers to corrupted towns for scientists).
Don't forget to watch prebuild at Cuzco, palace due in 17. Also don't forget to start the second prebuild.

I'm away until Friday evening so please skip/swap me as you see fit.

Got up to turn 5 and completed Mass Production. MT due in 5 at -16 gpt only changing 5 taxmen back to scientist after making many more scientists taxmen at the end of last turn. I therefore want to have a MM to see what can be done. Gone midnight now so I'll finish tomorrow.

1500 AD (Turn 0): MM to get gpt up to –33 without losing science; gift Shake & Catherine Silks, Shaka Annoyed to Polite, Catherine stays annoyed.

IBT: Extend Peace with Germany

1505 AD(Turn 1): Keep Workers busy, trade WMs

1510 AD (Turn 2): Keep Workers busy

IBT: Accept Russian WM trade; lots of pollution

1515 AD (Turn 3): clear pollution; a deal ends and we plummet to –72gpt; get back to –45gpt by MM and trading luxes to Persia and France

1520 AD (Turn 4): MM to avoid the overrun on research, leaving a few extra scientists in case of pollution.

IBT: learn Mass Production, start Motorised Transport.

1525 AD (Turn 5): Next day: turn taxmen to scientists to see if I can do MT in 4 – no, turn them back again, MT in 5, -13gpt; trade WM.

1530 AD (Turn 6): keep workers occupied, renew luxes trade with Hiawatha for 6gpt.

1535 AD (Turn 7): 10 turns from Modern Age so start backup prebuild in Bombay @50spt, trade maps

1540 AD (Turn 8): Get hit by loads of pollution, but so does Paris (again)

1545 AD (Turn 9): clear pollution, mm.

IBT: learn MT start Flight, get hit by loads more pollution.

1550 AD (Turn 10): By turning many taxmen to scientists we can get Flight in 6, but at –118gpt. Several deals have expired this turn, which I have left to the next player to renew as well as trading maps.

Treasury: 861 gold - 118gpt, Flight due in 6 (100%)

Post-turn: Our main prebuild is due in 7, but can be got to 6 by working more mountains. Our backup prebuild (with Battlefield medicine) was set to 50spt with engineers but has been disrupted due to pollution. If Fission is obtained in the trading moving into the next age we could be ready for the vote in 6 turns.

I could play tomorrow if neither Tone nor wxwindmill are available.

I'm back. However I'm exhausted and I've a few things to sort out tomorrow so I doubt if I can play before Sunday.

Let me know if you pick it up, tao; I'll do the same.

Sunday is fine - no need to hurry for the last (hopefully) turns.

Now that I've recharged the batteries it looks pretty straightforward.

Keep trading with all and gifting all but Persia.

Get to flight-trade in the inter-turn with fingers crossed that we get Fission. declare war on Persia in the inter-turn and ally the world against them. If we trade for Fission then convert Palace prebuild to UN and hopefully win.

If nobody else gets Fission, convert our prebuild to SETI and select that as our tech so that if that becomes our freebie then we get another opportunity to go to the Big Picture. If we don't get it, well it doesn't bear thinking about.

No more wars!

I'll start using the governor in Bombay as then citizens will work tiles as soon as the pollution is cleared. OK?

Edit: Sunday was lost to me but I can manage it tonight. I'll assume that the above comments are all OK.

Yet again I forgot about this. I woke up early this morning, remembered and played. My alarm went off at a crucial point and I did a number of stupid things. My stupidity cost us a turn. Our poor rep nearly cost us about 12 turns as I couldn't trade for Fission. (Am I missing something here?) However we've won. (eventually!)

Trade combustion for Wool and Ironclads (France)
Gift techs to others and trade WMs.

1 (1555AD)
clear some pollution. Palace and Flight in 5

2 (1560AD)
and more trading...zzz

5 (1575AD)
Flight in 1; Palace in 1.

Germans get Fission. So do the Russians. Persians get Ecology. Greeks get Computers. We cannot trade for Fission as our rep is ruined. Why didn't I think of this? Why am I so stupid! Why didn't someone warn me when I talked about trading for Fission. Our research is set for Fission in the hope that we get it as a freebie and then I can reset production et al.

How lucky are we? We get Fission as a freebie...

I go back into the Big Picture and...

Switch Palace to UN

Dec war on Persia

Then notice that we haven't got embassies with most civs. What was I saying about being stupid? I'm so sorry (although I'm not sure that we could have bought many). We haven't got that many civs that are happy with us so I delay the UN build by taking workers off mountains.

6 (1580AD)
We can afford embassies with all but Greece. Get alliances with everyone that we can. Try to get additional trades to turn some civs but they're not having it. We have enough polite+ ones though so I press enter.

IT
Persians stream over the borders but only a couple of cavs attack.

7 (1585AD)
UN vote called and we win.

Now to upload the save and get to work. I have CAII archives if you want any of these final saves. Just ask and I will provide them.

Well done everybody. :goodjob: Now let's see why other teams were faster. ;)

I'm tempted but I can't be sure that I have the time so I'd better keep out. I'll be watching though.

I know the feeling about time, I wouldn't have been able to play is there was a SGOTM this summer and it's still touch and go...

@Tone: We're planning another CFC meet for the end of Feb/beginning of March next year, not on your birthday this time! Thread somewhere in Off Topic.
