SGOTM 14 - Team Roadkill

Oh lord, that stone city looks amazing now. Let's go for it, and pump out dem pyramids. It'll transition into a great city once it gets a bit of culture.

Let's dissect ragnar and asoka as much as we can. What is their current happiness modifier towards us, and how does that translate into an opinion? (Aka +2 = Annoyed, or +2 = pleased?).

Put all espionage points towards them for now since they are likely the closest.

We met them via scout so they are on the same landmass (c-c-c-conquest time?)

I would consider skipping mids and going full on war mode against them, they both had no visible modifiers. I think turn 50 is when you get +1 for Peace so then we may get an idea if they have negative modifiers (and so cut down the possible AI personalities they are)

Of course we need to find some resource to war with or we'll be archer rushing lol :) Is everyone fine with settling on the plains hill, getting fresh water from oasis, seafood+gold+rice+stone.

The 2nd Warrior can carry on scouting or go spawn bust the other city site.

Wooohoooo, stone city is going to rock. But since Ragnar is the wicked witch of the east we better prepare for some war. Imho both mids and oracle is now out of the order. We will not manage that. And since we are not isolated anymore the mids become less important. I am however that Ragnar will have Monty's personality in the flavor of the game. Where did we meet Ragnar? In the east? If so then we should settle on the plains hill for the extra defense. It will also give us a headstart with the extra hammer.

Hi all,

I'll likely have an used notebook since next week at home.
For now I'm just following this thread as often as I can from wherever I can.
I'm fine with both, the "full war mode" or the 'mids plan.
Just pick the one you guys prefere, and play your turnset, I'm fine also playing last.

This map/game seems is getting more and more interesting...

Cheers.

Another reason for me to go into full war mode is because I never do this. I never horse archer rushed somebody for instance so it will be something new for me to learn. Now only to find some horses to do that with :)

I would say lets tech to bronze working and see if we get any strategical resources. If not then focus immediately on the mids and maybe even the oracle.

I am swamped in work right now and have appointments for the coming 4 nights so you can play up to BW if you want to.

I'll play it thru over the next few days then :)

Yes, go ahead! :)

Then either CreeDakota, Zech or Roy, whoever wants to follow, is just fine with me. Seems like it is going to be a fun aggressive phase, right next. I can play 5th.

Cheers all!

I am starting to doubt whether it is going to be agressive. I got a feeling (oehoeh, Black eyed Peas) that maybe strategic resource will be absent. This would make the developper evil, EVIL I tell ya :) For compensation we get 2 incredible good cities with precious metals in return. Go ahead Habitus onto BW and lets see if we get anything. Gogo Toto's revenge, scout more!

So BW is in and we don't have any :) but we do have phants

Only thing that really happened in my turnset is Ragnar settling his 2nd city on Turn 35

What I've scouted with the 2 warriors

I'd settle on the hill for the phants as my dot map shows :)

The worker on the Plains Hill we're settling should just chop the forest there as we'll lose it anyway. After settler I'd build an archer with overflow from chop(s) and then straight into 3rd settler (probably phants for happiness + blocking off land from north once we can get a border pop in the 2 cities.

So IW to check for iron (we don't have any jungle really so i would prefer not too), beeline construction for phants, or settle in to a more peaceful game and get mids. Cat+Phants is probably what i would suggest, thou we need to find the AI's land as haven't actually meet any of Ragnars units yet, we know him due to him being teamed with Asoka.

That is a lot of dang good land.

Without Horses or BW, and with such good land, it seems like a construction rush is kinda unnecessary. I think we could peacefully expand to a half dozen or so cities pretty quick with what we have here. Deer-Gems looks like a pretty darn safe area to expand into, but if the Wicked Witch ends up close by, we'll want to expand north towards him. Odd that the witches of the east are to the north.

I personally would research writing next in any case: either we do the aggressive way, or the 'mids way, being able to run a couple of specialists in the capital, if needed, IMO is a good weapon being philo (even better if in representation of course, but good also if not, for the first GS building an academy or quick discovering something needed), plus in the beginning few science points (as a +25% bonus in the capital) might make the difference: I believe writing >> construction might be as fast or almost as construction without writing, maybe.

Plus, writing is kind of cheap to discover, compared to IW, and allows open borders to scout better before declaring, if we attack.

So, IMO, having already decided to take advantage of the elephants, let's do writing first, then IW whenever we think so. This would be my plan in any case.

I agree on about everything else has been said, and I'm fine with both the possible plans you guys are talking about, I still have no preference at this moment: either a full war mode, or the construction of the 'mids, both sound good to me.

Cheers! :)

Need writing for construction as need writing for maths and need maths for construction :) Writing next is fine with me as well, i don't have too much of a preference thou i generally find war pays off best due to it being the AIs weakest area :)

Holy crap Batman, that is good land. Expansion is a must in this case if you ask me. We can settle about 7 great cities with ease if we focus on it. 1 more city on the NW silk and 1 city 1S of the silver (who then also can use 2 lake tiles :) So where did we meet Ragnar and Asoka? If it is to the north then stone city and ele city should maybe have preference to block him off. Shouldn't we go with pottery first? Or is it already in?

Then there is the thing about teams. Since we are propably facing 4 teams what will happen to the teching. Will these guys tech a lot faster then us. If so should we focus more on expansion?

We have alot of pluses for playing peaceful for now, with excellent land, all the wonder multipliers, no strategic resources until medieval era and we haven't even found any enemies borders. If Rags is just on the other side of those mountains we can reconsider but I think he is kinda far away since we met him late and he starts with a scout.

I recommend settling stone city next and Ivory city to the North as City 3. Gem/Deer City will likely have it's specials in our borders and improved by then for an obvious city 4. Then maybe silver city next depending on the risk of losing that spot to the AI.

I don't agree to go into full war mode and recommend we continue to pursue the mids. We don't have masonry yet right? Nor pottery right? I recommend teching Masonry > Pot > Writing. I don't think we need to rush writing; I think we will not have spare hammers for a library so fast anyway.

Longer term both MC and Calender will be tempting techs for what +6 or 7 happy.

also I didnt know you could get any hammers for a chop outside your borders...is that because it is on a road?

You get less hammers but since we are settling on it anyway it's hammers we lose anyway

So what is the next plan? Settler done and to stone city. Then growing the capital while building archer? Maybe sink a few turns into the mids and then settler again? Whip for 2 pop? And then start building mids?
