" war is eminent once we have a city within 4-5 tiles of his border." So, if we can't settle where we want until we are ready to go to war, that makes rexing problematic (and I'm back to attacking Goldmember). Like to have an answer from Htadus to leif's question.

    I agree :goodjob:

I don't think Genghis will attack this soon, he's got plenty of room to expand.
In the test save he does not DoW no matter how close we settle. :crazyeye:

Indeed. If settling means we're going to have war, we're better off holing up and attacking GoldMember. I'm not sure on the math behind that declaration though.

In the capital, we could build an Axe while growing to size 4, whip a Settler and then put the overflow into a Chariot, which should be able to catch up to the settling pair?

    Yes. Send defense.

We are not ready to attack gold member unless we do a dedicated unit build up. that would be about 3 galleys and 6 city takers.

If you are absolutely sure, lets do it and see. I think we will loose that bet. BTW how many defenders did you have?

Best option is rex but not just tossing the dice.

This seem a very good choice.

    Agreed.

    Revised PPP:
Washington: Finish Granary > Worker > Axe > Settler (2pop whip into Lib) > Chariot
Fish City: Finish Granary > Galley (juggle tiles to get 2pop whip available for Galley) > WB > Galley (partly, to be whipped if our other galley bites it).
Pig City: Granary (whip) > unit/lib for regrow > Settler/Worker
Worker 1: Finish cottage > move towards pig-city for roads & chopping
Worker 2: Finish pigs > Pasture horses > chop forest > cottage riverside grass
    New worker: build PH mine

    WB: scout West
Fembot: check to see if there's a way out North of Portugal, scout either there or go West.

    Tech:
    Finish Math, start Aest.

It will probably take Fishing+Writing+Math to make Genghis cautious, but I would do it, open borders and maybe trade him Alpha for Myst+Hunting while he's still willing to trade techs. :)

I don't see us expanding too much in his direction, so it would be nice if we could stay peaceful with him for as long as possible.

I does not matter to much atm, but yes they are probably wasted on Dr. Evil. :mischief:
I would put them on the closest neighbor to Swinger's Pad. :)

I don't think we'll be working that ph for a long time, I would send him roading/chopping first :crazyeye:

We have 10 :hammers: into an axe in Fish City, it needs to be built somewhere in between to avoid the decay of hammers :mischief:

Consider building a few warriors before we trade for Hunting.
For faster GLib consider letting Pig City build the settlers (chop/whip) and units (if you really think we need them.. :p) and let the capital concentrate on the library (2-pop whip into GLib !?) :)

I don't have much to add to Z's and CP's comments. I do like the suggestion of pig city building our REX units while the capital focuses on GLIB. Very early GLIB seems important. In addition, the capital has such powerful tiles I would be reluctant to do excessive whipping there.

I have to say, the idea of major MPs for a city this early in the game seems foreign to me. On the other hand, I can't say I've ever started with a war monger like Genghis with early negative modifiers. (And unlike our friend Htadus, I don't make a habit of poking Genghis in the eye to see what he will do!). I guess since we already have hammers into an axe in pig city, we may as well complete the axe and have him escort the closest settler to Genghis.

I think it is worth the attempt to trade techs to make Genghis cautious. Even if we fail, we won't have given away much of a tech advantage. With Glib, we will run ahead of him soon enough. Besides, we know he can't further trade them.

That is the good bit about no tech brokering. I tend to groan when I think about no tech brokering because it hampers my normal propensity to trade, but knowing that anything you give to an AI can't be traded on is a nice bonus... :)

I think we do need to take some steps to have a northern city better defended. The cost of losing the city would be a lot more than the hammers going into an axe...

Can we afford the hammers to put a lookout on that railroad too? It makes the route from GK's north end to us no longer than the route from his south end.

I would personally like to keep Genghis backwards as much as possible. If he gets a bunch of free techs from Human player, he is free to go after his favorite tech path. If I recall correct he likes military techs. I hope he will trade with us.

We might as well flog the horse as I won't be able to play tonight. Will do so tomorrow (either in the morning if my meeting is done quickly, otherwise after work).

I agree with using Pig City for the rex-builds, but as Lit is still some ways away, I'll get a worker out of the cap first (will switch the settler for a library, but I'll likely pause before I get that far anyway).

    Thanks, and here's the turnset:

    T0 (42):
Move scout west, set EP to Joao, who appears to be closest to Swingers Pad atm. Gift writing + fishing to Genghis, who is now only -2 (instead of -3).

    T1 (43):
    Scouting

    T2 (44):
Our exploring WB didn't get to far: it got killed by a Viking Galley :(
    Wash: Cap > Worker

    T3 (45):
Math is in, set tech to Aest.
I spot the Malinese borders north of Portugal.

    T4 (46):
I gift Math to our Mongolian friend, who turns to cautious. I open borders with him as well.

    T5 (47):
Granary done in Fish City, start Galley

    T6 (48):
Dr Evil gets a GSc in Swingers Pad :(

    T7 (49):
    Whip Fish City

    T8 (50):
Worker done in Cap, start Lib (axe will come from Fish City)
Galley done in Fish City > continue WB (didn't want to lose hammers).

    T9 (51):
Fish City finishes WB, put one turn into Galley.
    Spot a northern Railroad.

    T10 (52):
Find a way into Mansa's land.
Put a chop into the Granary at Pig City to finish it.
Switch Fish City to Axe. Misclick and Whip the axe :dubious: :hammer2:

    T11 (53):
    Pig City: Granary > Settler
    Fish City: Axe > LH

I'll stop here, starting to get a headache, which won't improve my play. I haven't moved the workers yet.

For some reason all my screenshots turned up black, but I invite you to take a look at Mansa's cap. It's quite insane.

OK. Can't do much before the end of the weekend, but after that it looks like "good timing". I've got a week with not much on. :D Seems like there might be a fair bit of CIV coming up...
