SGOTM 22 - Anti-TSR

Continuing now, until at least Uruk is captured

Turnset report, t199-?
t199
We've successfully launched our golden age. The GM is left in Celtic lands to find his fortune.
Gil's stack is in Caumulodunum. That means the GM has to stay put this turn.

We land our main fleet near Nibru.
Our mini galley stack moves towards Damascus - we'll set up a short galley chain to ship units across from Gondar/Aksum/Lali.

IBT: Gil kills one of our Cuirs in our Celtic stack.
Saladin and Zara sign a defensive pact. :run:

t200
We steal 552 gold from Medina, for 480EPs.

We revolt to Christianity + OR. Brennus is Pleased

We capture and keep Nibru, our 11th city.
We lost 2 trebs.

Our super medic knight pillages Gil's iron, and takes a couple of strong defenders as guards (pike + praet).

Our other knights upgrade to Cuirs in Nibru (6 @ 50g, plus our other super medic).
The land-based stack from Bibracte marches towards Uruk. I think it, plus the Cuirs, will be enough to take the city.

IBT:
Gil kills the pike, praet and super medic that pillaged his iron.
On the plus side, his four Cuirs are now wounded sitting ducks, and he can't replace them.

t201
Gil has no Cuirs left at home, and no capacity to build any more.
We split our stacks (based more on where their movement points will allow), heading to Zimbir and Uruk.
Hannibal has finished Military Science.

IBT:
Hannibal starts Printing Press.
We're still playing mouse to Gil's caravel-shaped cat.

t202
Our units move around a bit.
The GM nets us 2100 gold in Bibracte.
The knights (apart from the 17XP one which I want to baby up to 26XP for Commando before upgrading it back to 10XP) and 5XP chariots all become Cuirassiers in Bovino (Gil's stack will show its face next turn).

IBT:
Brennus goes into WHEOOHRN mode! He is Pleased towards us, but this should make his stack walk out of Calleva next turn.
The possible targets are Darius, Saladin and Zara.

t203
Spy revolt in Uruk is successful.
1 treb suicides.
A brief pause for a crash, repeating the previous two actions after rebooting. :badcomp:
Uruk is razed with no further losses.

And now for the cherries jubilee!
Zimbir is razed
We lost one treb against Zimbir as well.

Save uploaded for discussion of our next targets!

Is Uruk the best keeper city from Gil? It will take 10t to come out of resistance, that is, T213. If we keep Nibru, it will come out of resistance on T208, gets us spices 3t sooner if we're still running castes, allows us to upgrade our knights before Uruk, and is a bit closer to all the future fighting.

Colossus is not biggie because we're only working a handful of coastal tiles. Sankore is useless for us.

Razing Nibru but keeping Zimbir would also get us spices 3t sooner than Uruk, but only get our knights upgraded 1t sooner.

~~~
Speaking of castes, are we staying in castes or revolting to slavery?
~~~

Food for thought, as always.

I like the idea of keeping Nibru, for the knight upgrades, and to give our galleys somewhere to hide, but it doesn't give us spices, and is in an inconvenient location in terms of Gil recapturing it - I'd rather give it to Zara after 1 turn (after stealing his gold).

Caste vs Slavery? We've got a lot of cities at 50+ hpt (final hammers) in caste+GA. Slavery might be able to pull slightly ahead in production (for the short term), but the Caste micromanagement is so easy.

In Castes, Nibru can pop its borders to include the spices in 2t, running a mess of artists.

I suppose Colossus will pay off with Addis Ababa and Uruk itself, plus 8 other coastal tiles.

Whatever you think we need most--quicker units or more gold.

Upgrading units knocks them back to 10XP max? That's interesting. Does that mean they get their next promo at 17XP again?

I've had a crash very early on (2 moves in) in t203. I've got the manual save and autosave from the start of the turn, so I'll continue after a reboot. This should be a fun turn ;)

@LC: The next promo is still 26XP. Great Generals are exempt from this rule - they get to keep all of their XP when upgrading.

If Brennus is going to DoW someone else, do we alter our plans? We need to beat down else on someone immediately..

I'll upload for discussion. Gil is beaten, now we need to plot our next targets.

Brennus has RP and can tech Rifling. :eek:
Well I guess I know who our #1 priority new target is. :hammer2:

Edit: and he's already had it for 2 turns. Damn. I should have noticed that.

We should certainly plan to steal Rifling and pre-reqs.
It may not be too late. Gil picked Democracy after all, but Bren is probably going for Rifling.

We might have to let Brennus move his stack to where-ever. Let's hope Sal. And do that job for us. We don't want to start a war if he will have Rifles a couple turns later. We'll need some time to get Rifling and then we are drafting. Also, our new city is not ready to contribute to the Brennus war. We could leave him until the end and hope he burns up a lot of units on someone else? But all our units are right there :think:

Or kill as many Brennus cities as possible before Rifling, then Cease Fire?

I guess it all depends on when Rifling is coming in for him. 1t of 100% EPs on Brennus? Or more? our extra EPs might cause a 1t delay of him getting Rifling.

New GG.
Are we replacing our MedicIII with another chariot-GG? Seems like good timing that we just got our GG. We're probably going to need a healer at the Brennus border. Gil's stack is there too.

Problem with Brennus is that he now has a mammoth research engine with all those high population cities working tons of coastal tiles. He snuck up on us. Every one of his high-pop cities is probably a production monster, working workshops.

Grenadiers get +50% against rifles so we just whittle him down after he gets them. Luckily Hannibal is still lagging just a bit, though probably not for long. Darius even moreso.

I would focus on 1) Mil Science, which requires some eps this turn (take the second spy the hell out of HaGift first), 2) smacking down on Brennus, eps on him this and next turn to see his research.

Immediately send Patton (super-medic) and all Cuirs currently in Damascus to the Brennus western front. Prepare all Gil units for the Brennus eastern front, upgrading plenty of grens in Nibru, while Cuirs move onward asap, without the grens if ready. Maybe send the trebs across the sea to the western front where they can bombard the wall-less cities. Probably CF Gil to allow free galley movement. Send spies to Brennus' most problematic cities. Bibrachte has HE.

Hill castles in Bibrachte, Gergovia, Tolosa, Camulodunum
Plains castles in Vienne, Verlamion, Isca
Other hill city: Calleva.
Other plains cites: Durnovaria, Bagacum, Durocortorum, Nemotocenna, NewCity(GilLand?)

Brennus attack priority
Eastern front:
1. Vienne and Bibrachte
2. Gergovia, assuming it's working workshops.
3. Camulodunum and Verlamion

Western Front:
1. SoD (Calleva)
2. Durocortorum, Nemotocenna
3. Isca, Bagacum
4. Durnovaria
