This thread is for people who are not playing SGOTM 22. If you are an active player, reading this thread will get you disqualified!

Hint for lurkers: Be careful when quoting players. Some software tools alarm players when they are quoted and link them to the thread. This will make them open this thread, which they are not supposed to read. If you quote them, make sure you remove the player number from the opening tag of the quote. That will avoid the problem.

OK, welcome lurkers. Tell us what you think. Please don't post anything that points at something no team has yet seen. Basically: No spoilers.

Some people like to see what happeneds just like the teams do. Just wait for the first team to reach a critical point before you discuss it.

Btw: Where would you have settled? And would you be happy with that decission afterwards? Do you concider this land a strong starting point?

It's definitely strong. I think it was someone on Xteam who was holding out for Gold or Gems. Personally, I don't know why they'd expect anything more generous than they can see after t0 scouting.

I went with 1E in my own game. Seeing the whole area now, I think 1N is probably the best possible choice.

Btw, I set myself up to follow Xteam and TurboAnts, but I don't really know where the other teams are right now. Care to fill me in?

Crazy deduction by LowtherCastle (TurboAnts, who skipped animal husbandry) based on the culture graph:

"PR settled City #2, planted Christianity in it, evidently is on a Htg-AH-Fish-Pottery tech path. That tells me there are horses nearby and they settled to incorporate the horses and some food tiles, or maybe the stone also. That horse will be a strong city tile as well as providing chariots."

I haven't verified if he's correct on the details, but he did correctly figure out that there are horses nearby. Amazing.

Yeah, we seem to be seeing some benefits to lagging behind at the start. Xteam seemed to be in analysis paralysis until Dhoom's graph reading basically confirmed that English culture was not causing teams to stop and reassess. Hence, almost no chance Churchill was on the same landmass.

I noticed in the previous game and also in this game that there seems to be a lot of test game updating as scouting and moves take place. In the dim and distant past when I tried doing this type of thing I found it really difficult and time consuming. Have people just become more skilled at this or is there some tool that makes it easier nowadays?

start looks pretty strong to me. Land is tight, but certainly enough there to get up a good war machine to grab more.

Interesting map indeed. Didn't take long to figure out it was a psuedo Euro map. The Italians hate you though, BSP

Well, at least the pseudo Iberian landmass is represented. And the Netherlands has 1 pseudo tile up there across from Britain :mischief: No boot to speak of though

I think the Italians just increased their hate

So, I teched RR in 1230 AD in my own "real game" trial. Anyone want to place bets on the winning date for this competition? I figure the teams can beat me by at least 20 turns, but getting to RR is not the bottleneck in my game, so I'm going to take 1080 AD. Not sure what the prize is going to be, but it will be at least as valuable as the Wooden Spoons. ;)

Seems strange that Phoenixes keep their Espio points on Darius, they should have switched to Hatchy long ago. She will tech very fast with Rep and TGL.
They are also getting nowhere with Darius and 124 / 206, while Hatchy would still be only 87 for tech visi now.

Alex is really funny in their game, no cities built with such a great spot available north of Athens oO

Same thing happened when I played. He's got room for two other cities in his little Greece/Italy hybrid peninsula, but he doesn't build them.

Does the barb city throw the AI out of whack? I noticed that the Ottomans, Persians, Arabians, and Egyptians were throwing units at it without any hope of killing even one defender.

Alex with his 40% unit spamming probably made some bad random decisions (after also needing a workboat and i think worker?), and on Monarch it takes them quiet some time once they start builds.

For Joao it's less surprising, he built many workboats.
Barb city could slow Hatchy down yep, she started with 2 cities and should have a 3rd by now as well (if room). If she sends War Chariots and so there, they might miss as settler escort?
Even if not needed, i think they never send settlers out without 1 unit escort.

Bspollux thoughts on Hatshie would be interesting, did you expect / intend that teams will grab her wonders & great cities early? :)
