[BTS] SGOTM 24 Unusual Suspects

Green

OK, I plan to play in the morning, in about 12h

Excellent, I was kind of wondering about that trade, not many opinions on it..... so yes, after seeing that we did do that trade.

I have stopped 1t before finishing Compass as there are trade options.

Firstly, I determined we were ~11t from attacking, so I thought we might as well chance our arm:

BAZINGA!!!!

The next turn, we had to do some resource trade work:

Spoiler :

He negotiated so we added Clam and he added 2gpt. Sorry no screenie of that.

We got the HG's, though this has slightly messed up our whipping cycles due to the +1 pop (though in a good way). I have not done all potential whips this turn
Spoiler :

Our GM got 900g

Our Army
Spoiler :

The flotilla is almost ready, it can sail next turn when the Phant in Pork Chop boards, otherwise we have a similar stack forming in Stoned. Also have 2 more Phants (and placeholder DS) and potentially a whipped HA coming out next turn.
Workers have roaded to avoid grassland next to forests

Potential tech trades

Eyeland was switched to a Market as it will need the +2 happy very soon, but it is looking amazing!
Market is just placeholder for PovP

Yes, things are looking good. I also routed our GM through Darius' lands to have a look... his cities seem to have 2-3 defenders, mix Axe, Spear & Archer. I would back our stack of 6 units to take Persopolis without bombarding but would probably involve the sacrifice of at least 2 of the 3 cats. It would be an 'all-or-nothing' move. Probably better to bombard while the rest of the stacks moves. Galleys would speed up the arrival of reinforcements.

We have enough gold for 100% on Compass, Calendar, MC & Aesthetics.... then we can bulb Machinery (Xbows!) in about 9t.
I definitely think we should take both tech trades. Still not sure exactly who Stalin is planning on, sure hope its Darius!

Sounds good, will have a look later today.

Are Chris or kcd available for playing, or am I back up again?

Had a look, good job neil!

How many more units do we want for the attack? There's 5 turns before peace expires so we can build a bit more. Maybe I'd try to get some more WEs from places like fishy and porkchop. Maybe Stoned can also spit out a couple of swords, they're usually pretty decent for clean up work and just to add something else to the mix (and because dogs are underwhelming axes against all that is not melee and there are already quite some of those). Agree that markets are useful, especially in high food cities like EyeLand or PhantLand. The latter for instance could just hire the 2 merchants and 2 scientists permanently after it has grown a bit. In PovP, however, I'd build something else. It grows slowly relatively speaking and still has quite a buffer for happy. Either some units, or even just galley+unit+settler for Long Island. Or wealth until we can build a forge. From Worker's Graveyard I'd whip another worker at size 4 to connect those dyes sooner and to help out cutting all those jungles. We should be hiring 2 specs in Cahokia I think. Also agree with the proposed trades.

Looks good Neil!

Where are galleys intended to be stationed when we DoW?

I also think we need more killing units. Swords and both HA's and Chariots for stack balance and medic potential.

I agree that PoP should skip the Market and either build/whip Barracks/Stable/fast mounted given the distance east, or build to settle Long Island.

Bismark will also take HBR for those 2 techs, it is more of a dead end imo and I would probably go that way. Would Bismark trade HBR to Darius for Math? If so, then I would maybe go the other way, but I don't see the AI making that trade unless the conditions matched precisely.

In PovP my preference would be units, was skimping on specialists in Cahokia to help it grow, with our only Stable I was hoping for a couple more Phants. Fishy has its HA ready for whipping and Stoned is in a great position to add balance to whatever stack. We need at least 1 dog in a stack as defenders, Darius has a number of spears.

Galleys can sit in the ocean next to the mountain, units can then be dropped of the turn we DoW right next to Persopolis. Galleys arrive 1t south of the spot in 6t from memory, and if we DoW they will be moved 1N for free. When the GM passed it had Axe, Spear & Archer.

Not sure about trading HBR... we certainly don't want HA's showing up against us when we have Cats in the open. Stalin has Phants as well so I think I would keep it away from all AI for as long as possible.

I hadn't considered Bismark being able to tech something we may want if he got Math. I was thinking more about slowing the overall progress of a future target. I am not attached to either trade in particular, I just want the techs.

I will be traveling for the next week, so interwebs may or may not be available.

So dont wait for my feedback, just go kill Darius! :)

Yeah. ;)

Do you have time for a set now, or should I take it?
I'm just back from one trip and the work has piled up while I was away... plus had to get BOTM128 up... so it would help keep our pace going if you or someone else takes it. (Thanks!)

Ok, in that case, got it!

Will think of a first draft of a plan in the next 24 hours. Input welcome of course. :)
