Great news about your computer Chris!

    No vassals!

If we take peace soon, we should try to be ready attack again in 10 turns if possible. The only thing we are really lacking is fresh siege. Lets whip that!

    :woot: :woohoo:
I'm also back home and able to play again.

    I must be playing wrong.
I use cats to siege down cultural defense, then sacrifice a few.
Did you not bother with siege? Just sacrifice and keep rolling? I can see how that would be faster. [Looking at log, I see that answer is yes].

I think charging ahead is the right answer, given that Darius can build longbows. If you have time to spare, the slow siege route works fine, but in this case we needed speed. :goodjob:

Persepolis was bombarded down first (as we landed the expeditionary force from the galleys) then some sacrificial cats. I had 4 cats left for Pasargadae, used 2 to bombard, 2 sacrificial. That's why we're left with 2. :) In Pasargadae I indeed didn't want to wait to bomb it down to zero and just get the city asap. However, I did want to leave at least 2 cats alive, so 50/50 bombard/sacrifice there.

I can play next. I defer to Chris or kcd if they are available.
I can't play at the level of you guys. But I can create a PPP and follow it.

I do bombard :) but then you always sacrifice a few cats on every city.

Agree with others, lets get some more siege asap. With no vassals I feel we should make peace for techs soon so we can use the 10 turns to heal and regroup.
Don't forget we don't want Stalin DoWing us with our pants down, and if he was planning on Darius he would have surely DoWed him by now.

edit: and Chris, that is super lucky!

My one suggestion is to take Ecbatana before we take peace and before it has 3 defenders!

    Draft PPP
    Plan

    Questions:

 what I most wanted to post was a Civ2 Image of the Magellan Statue that you got for circumnavigating - but I couldn't find it. Am I misremembering?

I think we need more cats than you intend to build/whip!

EP and Stalin's strength? We can already see that we are 1.0:strength: with Russia! Also, from the demo screen, we are 2nd at 313,000 with the leader being at 320,000, so that could be Stalin as it falls inside the rounding error to be 1.0. What is kind of interesting is that Bismark has devoted 0 EP at us which indicates to me that he knows more AI.

GS bulbs are determined by total civ population.
Not sure on Totems, I know we won't be able to build any more. ;)

Cahokia has our only stable, I would love some HA's, I use them all the time against LB's and they get to the front fast!

    More thoughts later.

The 2-pop catapult whips in Mound and Pork Chop won't work right now, as there's a lot of overflow that would make those whips 1-pop. Mound instead could whip market now and follow with a cat with substantial overflow. Pork maybe get current overflow in market, then switch cat and 2-pop whip. In Clish I think I'd 3-pop whip the forge first, now or in a few turns, follow cat and whip that. Note Clish has no road connection, maybe worker 4 can take care of that before moving east. Phant Land I'd 4-pop whip the forge in 2 turns (when it's 27/120), it'll take ages to wait for a 2-pop whip. With forge the subsequent market whip will be easier too.

The settler in PovP was just an idea (for settling Long Island), but maybe better get some more military out (firing engineer for forest to grow). Maybe it's a bit far from the front for cats, but it could do horse units if we want more of those.

In EyeLand not sure if it's worth it to whip the forge with only 2 turns to go on it. Maybe it's an idea to produce cats here too, as we have a galley close by for ferrying them over. With Moai it's of course one of our best hammer cities. Could use a barracks in that case.

In Stoned I'd 3-pop whip the forge.

On bulbs, I think the amount of beaker is related to the amount of total population. So on a given turn it's best to do it after conquering cities and before whipping. However, I think it's realtively marginal, something like 3 beakers per pop or something. I don't recall the formula, but I'd guess it's something like 1500 + 3*pop (anyone knows for sure?).

I guess my question is, how many cats do we want to have in 13-15 turns when we want to DoW again?

1500 + 3*pop is correct for a great scientist bulb. The units produced from totem poles retain all of their bonuses. We don't get the bonuses on new units built after the totem pole is obsolete.

I have no doubt Stalin is targeting us. More military is needed, nocho's whip plan seems sound to me though I can't open the save. Agree with Ronnie that horse archers are great.

I don't recall a bonus to circumnavigate before civ4....but I was a terrible player :). Thing I remember the most is boats allowed in the ocean but having high chance of dying.... very imbalanced Cov3 gotm's because of this!

Agree with most of the comments above, though I would leave the engineer in PovP always, just thinking long term.

HA's are great early but Stalin has Phants...which means they will likely be useless. I would prefer Xbows which are decent attack and defence, especially with TP bonus, but as always a balance is required. If we are attacking you can never have enough Cats. Xbows will replace our dogs as melee stack defenders.

Edit: as others have said, Stalin must be targeting us...so we had best be ready. If we can leave a crappy unit of 2 in his closest cities to keep an eye on him it would be prudent

I disagree here. Phants won't really be defending cities and HA's rock!

What unit mix precisely are we looking for in 13-15 turns when we want to DoW again?
