I stopped getting notification on the thread. Glad I know not to trust the alerts, or I'd have missed this- I'm cool with the PPP and comments of others. I should be able to get back nto things in time for the set afte deckhand, unless chriss can take it. Anyhow, we're doing pretty good in the competition I think.

Maybe PM deckhand-he might be waiting for alerts too?

    K, here's my status:
thanks to kcd for alerting me that alerts had stopped working; I had seen some but not all replies.

My plan is to just play (3-5 turns) long enough to capture Ecbanta and reveal city in the fog. Then we can discuss making peace and how many catapults to build during it. And I will then make another PPP.

I was delayed by some personal business. And today I finished botm126, I just submitted it. It is 1 am here and I'm going to bed.

In the morning, I will update the PPP per feedback. Unless there are 3 greens waiting for me that there has been enough planning and discussion for the short turn set and I should just play it.

:deadhorse: to be clear and redundant (because I'm not thinking straight), either
    a) play short turn set then update PPP, or
    b) update PPP for short turn, then play (after greens), then update PPP for peace period.

cast your votes, (but don't believe the polls), good night

I guess the gist of the coming ~4 turns is clear, so if you take into account the comments I'm green enough for you to play up until that point. Main things different from PPP for me are building units from PovP instead of settler and having a good look at the various whip options, taking into account the various overflows which might mix up intended whips. Some places (like Fishy) already have so much accumulated whip anger that I think that the only reasonable whips are those that give happy back (that is, forges and markets). In those places, if you can produce cats purely with the overflow that'd be an option.

I don't think we have any jungle left in our starting screenshot, but the over in the maintenance thread they've clarified that forest preserves on jungle tiles count for the scenario objective.

    I'm comfortable with option a.

But forest preserves outside the starting area within cultural borders also count, but at 10 times the cost; 1 turn for 5 forest preserves instead of 2 for 1. But could be useful. From the rules:

you can further reduce the number of turns required by 1 for every five forest preserves you have on other lands within your borders

Leave some jungles on jungle island? Five maybe? ;)

I pretty much agree with nocho. My main concerns with the PPP were the build/whips that didn't make sense to me and that is what nocho covered. So I am on board with whipping happy potential where needed and units everywhere else.

I saw the maintenance thread jungle question, I find it interesting that after all the pre-game discussion this would come up so late.

OK, updated PPP with above comments for my convenience.
    Will play soon.
Unasked question was whether to delay Ecbanta attack to wait for catapults to reduce defense. My plan is no if only one defender and to siege if another defender shows up.

Want to discuss implications of Stalin's DoW!
    Spoiler :
    On Darius!
    Stalin now pleased with us.
    Spoiler Technically Challenged :
Easier to summarize than to post the Screenies:
Stalin offered Meditation & 50 Gold for Monarchy - we can accept Meditation now because we bulbed Astronomy, right?
Wrong! We might want to bulb the remaining 40%.

Do we want copper from Stalin for corn and deer?

Gordium has quite the stack in it.

Ecbanta still not captured. Spearman showed up right away. Now there is an Axe as well. Plan is to seige last 4% with wounded cat and sacrifice double city raider cat and take it this turn.

Another promotion available for Pizzaro Horse Medic. Want do we want? I usually take Morale for extra movement.
Getting Incense from Bismarck for corn.
Forest grew near PoVP; Jungle grew near EyeLand.
    Circumnavigated.
Pizzarro attached to HA. Plato set sail for Atlantis.

Don't continue war for shared Bonus with Stalin (he's not really our BFF, certainly not forever) - let Darius move his units east to defend. Re-declare after ten turns of peace, with N Catapults.

Next turn we get either a Great Engineer (64%) - save for UN; or a Great Scientist (36%) - bulb remaining 1323/2130! (I've been researching Astro at 0%)

Sorry, been offline for a few days, travelling.
Yay.... the last post really scared me... nice play with Spoiler tags. Thank god he DoWed Darius, this really would have caused us some heartache otherwise

Agreed on Morale for promotion, I usually take this also.

We should get some techs out of Darius, so I would agree to peace after capturing Ecbatana. Hopefully Stalin loses a lot of units against Darius...

There are 12 jungle tiles on the islands, including the tile we are currently mining, we currently have 47 forests in our starting area.... so that is 98t and doesnt include any of Darius/Stalins forests.

I think we are good for taking both Meditation & CoL, the bulb path is unaffected. Please correct me if I am wrong on this!

PovP is 64% GE, 36% GM, either way, I feel we should be using them for a bulb. The GE can bulb Engineering immediately for Trebs, Pikes & 3 movement on roads! and the GM can bulb Civil Service once CoL is taken. Engineering is more expensive than CS and trebs are so killer, we could build ~6-8 and roll through Darius & Stalin like butter! I know its a risk that we dont get another GE, but if we can conquer Darius/Stalin super quick we could save all the Gordium forests (it has 7+) for a UN chop with potentially a palace before to milk Beauro bonus.

Obviously we cannot take a huge pile more cities without more TR's that we will get from Astro, but we can research it in 17t at sustainable, and we will get conquest money, trades and more specialists, so hopefully ~11-12t.

    @NotWantingToPreemptPPP...but
-Several cities are at juicy 2pop whip stages, Clish & Pork Chop, might be a good idea to switch to libraries now and we can come back to the units and whip when we need them. Dont forget units cost us money so we don't want to build them too early. These cities also need somewhere to dump citizens to slow growth, and Representation scientists are perfect!
-MC could/should maybe hire some scientists.
-If we bulb Engineering, no more units that aren't already started, except for trebs and 1 pike for each stack. (Stalin has Phants)
-No more cottages (we are philosophical in representation)
-Finish the jungle mine and put a plantation on the 2nd Dye, otherwise leave the rest of the jungle
-Harbor for EyeLand ?? (this city looks amazing!)
-Sell Stalin obsolete techs now and until we invade for 50+ gold: Compass, Alpha & Aesthetics are all good sell techs.

edit: What was in Hittite?? It has a large cultural border, bigger than a normal barb city would have.
edit2: and I would definitely take the Rice trade from Stalin, give him a weak health resource (like Pig) in return. I don't think we need/want Copper

Thinking more long term, do we want to conquer Bismark?, he has a bunch of wonders including the Mahabodhi. Considering we will conquer Stalin and likely become Buddhist, this might be a good play. If we bulb CS, we should perhaps revolt to OR at the civic change in anticipation of spreading Buddhism to our core cities.

    Anyway.... long term

Sorry, got busy. So, not opening save now and PPP will be tomorrow.
For now, What do we need to discuss?

Tech Astronomy or use a Great Scientist bulb? if former, we can take Meditation as part of peace deal; if latter we probably will learn Astro later but can research something else now.

Bulb Engineering with Engineer? Trebs and fast roads would be great. Wait to see what we get and discuss it then?
And bulb CS with Merchant? Or trade mission?

    Make peace now? (after Ecbanta)

How big an army to build?
about what we have now, plus two spears/pikes and two crossbows and a chariot
and the rest catapults (about 10) or preferably trebuchets
DoW as soon as peace expires (but after my turnset)
build libraries before units (to save money)
two pop whip as much as I can; but work improved bonus tiles

    Espionage on Bismarck

    good input neil:
I will put it all in PPP form in about 12 hours.

Are we not getting notification emails anymore???

I would wait to see what kind of great person we get before spending a lot of time deciding what to do with one. That said, engineering is quite tasty.

I got my laptop back! And it has Windows on it with Steam and BUFFY and all that... so I'm back in business! However, I'm going on a house hunting trip to San Francisco leaving Friday April 7 returning late evening Monday April 10 so won't be able to take a turnset until April 11. (Did I mention I got a job at UCSF and will be moving to San Francisco in late July? :D)

Congrats Chris! The housing market in the bay area is crazy high, good luck!

I think we are in full war mode now!

Take Ecbatana then peace Darius for techs. Immediately back stab Stalin and take as much as we can get easily on his western edge in 10 turns and be ready to hit Darius again asap.

GE is most probable and Engineering now on a long continent would be huge imo, oh and TREBS! I think with Trebs we storm right through Bismark!

If we get a GM at lower odds, then ??? Not sure about bulbing CS honestly.

Longer term, everyone usually hates Stalin. It would be great to banish him to Yekat on the island and gift him the UN at some point when we are ready.

We should probably build a Caravel or 2 and find the rest of the AI also.

We are going to have to self tech Astro now as no GS is in sight to finish it. We can take any techs in trade or peace deals at this point imo.

Sell Aesthetics for 50g to Stalin.

green... about the libraies... we need to get up in the teh tree once our present prio of clearing the continnt is done. if we have the army to do so without the cats, libr is a good choice. if we need more army, cats never go out of style.

Green. I'm a builder at heart, so I'm in favor of libraries. That said, are we just going to abandon those hammers? Surely we will want to finish the catapults at some point - even if we build them naturally without whipping.

Worker 5 should build a workshop. We don't really want jungle to regrow in Phantland.

    Green from me!

We still want the Cats.... even though they arent as good as trebs they can always do collateral, and Stalin wont have Feudalism even by the time we get to him so they will still be effective.

I only suggesting switching to Libs because the Cats are at the perfect 2 pop whip sweetspot with lots of overflow, but we won't need them for another x turns. So, we need to check how many turns if takes for units to get to 'the front' and time our Cat whips so they arrive about when the peace deal with Darius expires.

The bulb may not get all of Engineering, it might require 1-2t of research to finish. Pray for a GE!

    Great thought on Caravels!

Yeah, my thought now is get the cats now. Those 3 plus 1 (or 2) survivors plus one just made (iirc) are at least 5 that will be enough to start on Stalin when they get to the front. So, question is whether we are going all out on war now against Stalin or waiting and doing Darius first. I think I will go ahead and whip them. If we don't war on Stalin, then we lose a little gold vs waiting and timing builds for when on front. Going to play the one turn.

Good news: no losses in attack
Bad news: Pasargadae water supply poisoned, Pasargadae Granary sabotaged; and a Great Merchant

Traded Corn and Deer for Rice and 1gpt
Meditation and 50 gold for Aesthetics
CoL and 10 gold for peace (wouldn't give Feudalism)

Work boat turned around because spotted barb galley.
Switched Persepolis to Archer for garrisoning cities

    Decisions:
What to do with Trey (Aretas III)? 1144/1248 for CS - can finish research this turn
Plan for war vs Stalin asap or Darius first. Can have 5 cats on border in 8 turns or just the 2 wounded in 5 more (move, heal 2, move 2).
Seems to me we should take CS and wait on Stalin. Let him and Darius fight, then finish off Darius first. Engineering would have been nice.

Working on PPP, please wait for it before responding.
