GO GHANDI!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: Future Plans

Future Plans? We're in a waiting game from here on out. Ghandi is going to build that spaceship eventually, as long as he keeps his cities. So our primary goal now is to keep him from winning in way other than space victory. Our secondary goal is to speed up his spaceship production. His cities look plenty happy, so I don't know what else we can do for the secondary goal.

I don't think we should let him take any more land. We probably want to even want to take a few Spanish cities back. One thing that we know is going to come sooner or later is the Manhattan Project. He may even be starting it already. I'd be putting all towns either on absolutely necessary infrastruction or military production. The more units we have the better the odds of Ghandi launching his ship for victory.

Well how about that? I guess he cares about science after all.
I think we ought to put together some kind of 'strike force'. It needs to be in position and ready to take out any city that starts building the Manhattan Project.
If that doesn't work, we can still build nuke defenses in the meantime. Air superiority would be nice too.

That is the prettiest screenshot I've seen in ages.

I second that! After all I read from other teams I did not expect that!

Great work Tim, now I seee why you had waitedso long with reports after wour "got it" [party]

With you letting us wait I can play the next set (unless someone else already got it). I could get it in 8 hours an play tomorrow night.

I had a bad thought and need someone to investigate this for me.

I looked at and old save and figured out that Gandhi is mobilized. Can he build Apollo while mobilized? If not it's game over as he'll never be able to un-mobilize.

We modified the saves a few months ago to allow apollo while mobilized (if you can remember that far back :p )

Reminder: Any peace treaty ends Mobilization, so any time Ghandi makes peace with Brennus he will be demobilized till he re-enables it. (Whenever that is, dependent to the vagaries of the AI)

Hot dog! I was beginning to give up hope.

I agree with building up our military. We don't want to panic Ghandi, but we don't want him to think he has any chance at a military victory.

If he hasn't already started the Manhattan Project, we might also try disconnecting Ghandi's uranium until he has started all the space ship parts except the fuel cells (which need it). Then he won't be able to build the MP until he can easily win by building the last space ship part. This should discourage him from starting a nuclear war with us.

I like that plan but are you sure he will build space parts if he lacks the resource to build the final part? We might wait till Manhattan is built, take the uranium and monitor him for 5 turns. To prevent being nuked might be worth a little chance for a small delay, right?

Got it, will play tomorrow.

A few points
1. I'd rather not build any more military at this point. I think Ghandi is much more likely to build SS parts if he is stronger than us.

2. While it might hurt a bit, does it really matter if we get Nuked at this point?
To me it doesn't. We have the workers availiable to clean up quickly. My take is that we let him build MP if he wants, but that we do nothing to encourage it.

3. I'd rather not disrupt any of Ghandi's resources. It seems risky.

I'm not sure about jeff's point 1, but I agree with the other two. I've seen advanced but defeated empires build the ship, with different parameters of course. Will the AI go for multiple VC's at once, or will they pick just one and work on that?

What about disconnecting Ghandi's oil? He doesn't need it for the space ship, but he does for almost all air and modern naval units, which would make it harder for him to attack us without interfering with his space plans.

Gandhi's (only?) source of oil is right in his core - how would you disconnect it? Just pillage and place some Mech Inf armies right there? Does that work?

We probably should have kept units camped on it after Ghandi took it over, but I don't blame any of us for getting caught up the "OH MY GOD, GHANDHI IS ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING!" euphoria.

An idea that commits less troops would be to create a large navy and airforce. We then bomb the heck out of the oil tile and continue doing so for the rest of the game.

We'd have to be careful about putting units on the oil tile because Ghandi will bombard them. However, once he doesn't have any air units left (since he can't build more) this risk should be smaller. Until that point, I think bombers are a better choice.

Take off

0) 1864
ship two SAMs and two armies to India along with three battle ships.
India controls four sources of oil. Three of them with colonies on .
It will be difficult to keep them from using them...
I will give it a little try just to not get bored... ;o)

IBT India launches some attacks in Spain, kills three defenders, robs ~8 workers - they are all Indians

now

1) 1866
start building some stealth fighters and bombers.

IBT India lands some units on our decoy(?) island.
I decide to give Gandhi a tougher challenge and raze all three towns there...

2) 1868
zzz

IBT tank attacks steel harbor.

3) 1870
our armies land on mountain north of Carthage.

IBT some bomber and tank attacks in Spain. Find out that stealth fighters don't interfere bombers...
start building some jet fighters instead...

4) 1872
our armies destroy two colonies on oil.

IBT our SAM in Madrid kills four bombers.
EDIT: Gandhi finishes Apollo Program

5) 1874
bomb some ships.

IBT some ships bomb our Spain cities.

6) 1876
destroy third oil colony.

IBT Gandhi lands 4 units on Hawaii.

7) 1878
realize I completely forgot to monitor Gandhi's space travel agency :(
IIRC building Apollo was the end of the short version. I think we try for the space elephant award -
I will later find out when Gadhi finished Apollo and submit a save made from the autosave...

IBT rebuff some rebels in Ta-Tu...

8) 1880
I inspect some Indian cities: Gandhi builds lots of ships and units but no space party at all...

After flight check

It seems Gandhi wants to defeat us on earth. I do not know how we can encourage him to be more peaceful. If we are tired, our game has ended in our turnsets. Looking at the "latest" saves from the rival teams I expect teams Klarius and Wacken and maybe Bede to be faster than us to this point.

Are we still aiming for "Dumbo-in-space-award"?

EDIT: I pmed AlanH of our success.

Here is the save

I think Alan said they could figure it out from a later save.

You are right, I read that, too. I had just submitted my final save and pmed AlanH. He already acknowledged the message.

I wonder if we are allowed to read aother teams' threads now.
