If any warmonger civ settled a city 4 tiles next to your capital, it's pretty guaranteed that he will eventually DoW with a carpet. Moreover, Shaka always DoW when he get impis or before, Suleiman when he get Janissary, or even before. Even before the DoW, you might get citadel bombed so might as well take him out as soon as possible.

I've played as the Zulus a few times, and I generally enjoyed the experiences, though I tend to gravitate towards warfare anyway. Although the Impi's double strike makes them quite good, I think it's the Buffalo promotions from the Ikanda that make the Zulus truly terrifying. Even regular ol Warriors can start doing some real damage with 3 MP. You really feel the difference when you're gifted Impis from military city-states without the Ikanda bonuses.
