Hired Goon
I said that I would revisit this topic periodically.
We have the opportunity to switch governments if we'd like. Consider the pros and cons of Republic:
Pros:
- Science should take fewer turns
- Should be able to earn more cash-money
- Less corruption/waste
- Can have more cities before all first citizens become unhappy
- Possibility to grow via "We Love" days
- Delivered caravans produce much more money and bigger science boost
Cons:
- All units require support which will hinder building (though more money my allow for rush-building)
- Happiness issues with 2 military units outside of cities (this includes triremes and caravels)
- Senate interference with military endeavors
- Don't recall if this is in Republic, but there may be a chance to go into anarchy if we do something naughty.
Given that Republic has been out there for so long, I HAVE to think that at least one or two other civs are in one. Remember, the AI does not have the same happiness troubles that the human player does.
We may be running a risk of falling behind in tech, so consider wisely.
