Since the thing I spend the most time on my computer doing isn't commonly benchmarked by component reviewers, and I'm currently debating a CPU upgrade, I'd love if we could share Civ 7 benchmarks here. The most easy to compare one is the AI benchmark, which should primarily be a CPU test, at 1080p/low quality/ MSAA off. (In my own testing, I noticed a difference in running it at these settings vs 4k/high, so best to reduce settings before running if you can.)

You can access the benchmark in Additional Content -> AI benchmark. Takes a few minutes to run as it goes through about 10 turns.

I am especially interested in how much better the 9800x3d is and the new Intel Arrow Lake (e.g. 265K), which is about half the price. I did find this (reddit link) that seems to suggest the 9800x3d is in a league of its own in Stellaris, which may be similar?

To kick it off here are benchmarks from PC gamer and myself:

ConfigurationAvg. Sec/Turn
Ryzen 9 9900X + RTX 4070 Ti17.0
Core Ultra 7 265K + RTX 4080 Super17.1
Core i5 13600K + RX 7800 XT17.9
Ryzen 7 5700X3D + RTX 407018.9
Ryzen 5 5600X + RX 6750 XT19.1
Ryzen 7 7735HS + RTX 405020.6
Core i7 9700K + RX 5700 XT20.8
ROG Ally X (30 W mode)21.4
ROG Ally X (17 W mode)27.6

My PC: 5800x3d + RTX 4090: 19.4

Happy to chip in with my results, do you mean change these in game?

My specs:-
AlphaSync Obsidian RTX 3070Ti AMD Ryzen 7 32GB RAM 4TB HDD 1TB SSD Gaming Desktop PC
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3.8 GHz
32GB RAM, 4TB HDD, 1TB SSD
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070Ti
Very interesting, our results + PC gamer seem to suggest that the turn time doesn't benefit much from the x3d design

I have the 9800x3D with 32GB of RAM and 4070 super. Got this result:

19.694, 17.978, 17.901. Every time I run it it gets a little faster, which you wouldn't expect for a benchmark, but 🤷‍♂️

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D 16-Core Processor, 4201 Mhz, 16 Core(s), 32 Logical Processor(s)
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER

14900KF, 128gb ram, 3090. Linux ver. OP settings. 17.65 (20.xx at 2560x1440 max qual)

Turn 1, 4,5,6 8 10 take the longest. 2,3,4 7 really short. 9 mid.

longest turn 29 (10) shortest 7.85 (7) it's really weird.

I'm in the same position as you @weplaysciv.
I too am interested in upgrading my PC (which I built in 2016 for Civ VI). But I'm kind of on the fence about it still.

I got 24.6 seconds on the AI benchmark with the low graphic settings as above.

My PC:
i5-6600K (which was released in 2015)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 (released in 2016)
16gb RAM

Seems pretty crazy that a 10-year-old CPU should still be doing pretty much OK. I've played through three times until the end of modern and although it sometimes gets a little slow, I think everyone is experiencing that?

If there were a guaranteed CPU/GPU combo that made turn times super slick all the way through I'd snap it up. But I'm not sure there is, is there?

I have i3-8100, GeForce 1060 and 16 GB RAM and HDD. HDD is the biggest restriction so far as it could take significant time to load assets, i.e. goodie huts. Other than that, there are some slowdowns in modern, but overall it's fine.
