So it's actually happening 14 years in development hell and with the help of Kickstarter. The Kickstarter raised already 50% of its $2 million goal after 1 hour of being posted.

Wasn't there originally supposed to be 16 chapters? I remember playing the first one on Dreamcast. I just don't remember if I liked it or not.

There was, we are going to be up to about Chapter 9 or so with Shenmue 3. I imagine if it sells enough (It will if it can raise 2 million dollars in 2 hours) then a 4th one to finish the story will happen.
