Not as far as I'm aware; I think you're stuck with it one you've revealed the map.
If you prefer the "normal" minimap I would suggest only using the Shift56 cheat for initial map-scoping and checking-up on other tribes occasionally. Save before Shift56, peek, then exit and re-open Civ.
