I think I found out why so many people are vocal about the idea of CiV - it isn't complete!

I think it's about 85% finished...the 15% that's missing involves the tweaks to upkeep, AI, and resources that many people are complaining about.

I haven't bought the game, but from the demo alone, it seems as though the game is a beta version.

The thing is, I think most of the haters dislike the idea that they have to spend $50-25lbs(don't have pound sign on my keyboard:p) for a game that isn't complete and needs a little bit of work.

I don't think it's terrible, or horrible, but it needed 6 more months of development.

That's half of it. The other half is many people expected the Empire simulation feeling of previous titles. However the devs decided to get back to the basics of a strategy board game. So people are disappointed because they expected Civ V to be X when its clearly Y. They removed or reworked mechanics in the name of streamlining it back to its board game roots.. and many people simply feel this is going backward instead of forward in the series. Of course there are those who are perfectly happy with it.. which is why you see such a polarization.

Meh. Used to it. I play Total War too. Empire. /spit.

They'll sell us the fixed version in DLC or an expansion.

Thing is, if I wanted to play a board game, I could buy one for half the price of this AND get to spend fun times face to face with my buddies. I'm not too happy about the idea of PC civ as a board game, and I hope the add better stuff in DLC.

Oh they will.....99% guarantee that they withheld majority of the contents just so they can release them in expansions and "blow us away".

Catch is we have to spend another extra $30-50 on contents that we should be having now anyways, which is BS.

I imagine we will see alot of things in the form of DLC. However there is the basic underlying core of the game.. which some things just don't and imho won't feel like empire management no matter how you add to them. Social policies come to mind on this one among other things.

It's a really fun game, but it does feel like a beta that's like two or three months from release or more.

I wonder why they pushed it out in this condition?

Well if i had to guess.. it would be they agreed with 2k to have it released by X date.. and didn't plan on the firing of 20ish people from the team mid way through the development process. So they were stuck with getting it as functional as possible with what they had.

Shock! Gasp! No it's not! The game is very much finished and an awesome gaming experience!

Of course it will be improved upon over time, like every Civ game ever. But those will be 1.xxx versions of the game. It's done and very much playable.

Yes, that's what companies do, they cut out half of their content and sell it back to you over time.

Why? Because they hate you.

..utter nonsense, of course. Conspiracy crap like this is really getting on my nerves. No, they did not cut half the game out to sell back as DLC/Expansions. It's a ridiculous argument that has being whispered among paranoid freaks every since the first DLC pack came out, and it's STILL a load of crap.

Any content coming out, be it free patches, paid expansions or DLC, will have been made after the release. Now take off your tinfoil hat and SHOVE IT.

The internet disagrees with you. Look up Civilization V and bugs in google.

It is fun.

It is not even close to finished. It has many technical and gameplay bugs and glitches.

See a short list here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=381414

The AI is almost non-existent. Firaxis should be absolutely ashamed that they pushed it out in this state and fans should indeed be angry with them for doing so.

You know, that type of credulity is only cute in children on christmas morning?

A large part of the people on this forum think that it isn't finished. The bugs, gameplay problems and sad AI attest to the fact that it needed more time in development.

A game always has bugs when it comes out, none is perfect.
And especially a game with so many users on so many different computer setups tends to generate quite some bugs, it's impossible to squash all those bugs in beta-testing.

Be glad 2K Games are working hard to get rid of the bugs :) (2 patches in 4 days!).
And as soon as most technical stuff is smoothed out I'm sure they'll work on AI and balancing issues.

And I agree with Gunship_Down, Civ5 is a very nice gaming experience, I'm enjoying myself very much. My game (apart from AI and balancing) is working flawlessly, no bugs whatsoever.

Who said they cut half the game ? I think what people are saying is that they sold the game when only half the game was made .

Barely applicable generalizations in first graph. Naive, somewhat sycophantic drivel in the second. Pure opinion in the third. I gave facts and supplied evidence to back up those facts.

If you don't think companies hold back features, look up Empire Total War. Things released as DLC were already on the initial disk sold in stores.

As for DLCs with Civ 5, they kind of already did it. Why is Babylon a special bonus Civ when it was obviously done in time to go into the regular game?

I think this is very true. This is how I played Civ IV but after that I discovered other games with in my opinion do a better job of empire simulation. The reason I bought Civ V was the clear move in the board game direction. A move in the empire building direction would've probably made sure I wouldn't buy it.

There is a difference in bugs that cause a game not to play, or to have performance issues and bugs that everybody experiences that are gameplay bugs.

Having bugs that are in the first part (game not playing, or performance issues) would be natural for every game title because of the different hardware that we all run on our computers.

However, bugs that fall into the latter category (gameplay) are bugs that should have been found if their QA properly tested the project with care and concern for a finished product.

I have no doubts in my mind that there is a QA dept and they did do some form of testing on the product before shipping it out, however I also believe that it's cheaper to let your customers test the product more thoroughly and then fix the bugs that they find, which it would see is the rules that Firaxis is following.

/. City Builder heads off to put his tinfoil hat neatly away in the cabinet for the next time that he needs it.

Oh and don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for the 2 patches so quickly, now I get to download and install the clock mod so that I can have a clock on my game screen. Oh wait, in CIV 4 we used to have a more full featured clock with an alarm even. Hmmm, go figure.
