    A pizza.

Or if you mean durable goods, an iPhone SE. My old phone is from 2012, I'd owned it for 4.5 years (second-hand), and it's been showing its age lately, so it was time. I've moved away from Google, so this seemed like the best option. Smaller screen than any of Apple's current models, headphone jack included, and surprisingly light on the wallet - about $140.

And yes, this is me, but for phones:

    Although sometimes for games, too.

    Awesome on the new phone!

I've run into issues with the 5-year lag thing - I've run into more than one game where there has been some online component of the game that has been shut down by the time I get to it. Not only multiplayer, either. Pokemon games have services which connect to Nintendo for bonuses and random events but by the time I get the games, all of the events and bonuses have long since been shuttered.

We do it with cars. I expect we will upgrade our 2009s to ~2015s in a couple of years. I'm looking forward to back up cams and heated seats.

I haven't run into that yet, but I'm fairly solidly single-player for video games - board games being my preferred multiplayer form most of the time. But I can see what you mean by that hazard. Kind of surprising that Pokemon games fall in that category though, I'd have expected they'd be popular enough to have a long shelf life.

My parents have always been in the "drive it until it doesn't/almost doesn't run anymore" crowd. So far their record is 27 years with a Mazda, which took me both home from the hospital after being born, and home from college after my last semester.

I'm still on my first car - a 2011 - but am not sure if I'll keep it quite that long. It's a Honda, so it probably will last a long time, but I could see myself switching to either an efficient hybrid (such as the Hyundai Ioniq - they're pretty new though, so not much second-hand stock), or an electric car in a few years - provided I have a place to charge it for the latter.

I did rent a car with a back-up cam this year, but found myself still checking the mirrors and visually. Smart cruise control is probably my top driver-assist technology wishlist item. Bluetooth would also be nice, although I've found burning CD-Rs to be an effective workaround for podcasts/audiobooks.

I got a library card today and downloaded an audio book to my phone with it (Farside by Ben Bova). I got really excited because they had the audiobook version of an Elon Musk biography that I really wanted to listen to but when I downloaded it I found out it was in Russian. :(

The wait list for Caliban's War is 7 weeks.

Hurry up and read it so I can venttalk about it. :bounce:

Have you read Leviathans of Jupiter yet? Chronologically Leviathans comes before Farside. At least I think it does. They're somewhat connected, at any rate.

Yes I have read that one. My first impression of the female protagonist was not very good.

I tried cutting a tomato and all of my blades were so dull I ended up doing more crushing that slicing.

I bought a knife sharpener and all of my cooking knives are like new. I'm not sure it does a great job on serrated edges though and I haven't had a chance to test those.

Keep in mind that with tomatoes, you usually need to poke the skin with the knife point before trying to slice. It can be done in a quick motion followed by the slice.

Some tomatoes you have to execute with a 9mm right to the stem before you can even begin your knifework.

I don't know, for me it's more of the "I wasn't interested/didn't know about it" kind of thing. I only got my toes into Starcraft II after venturing into Overwatch, and I've played other RTS titles like Hearts of Iron 4, Stellaris, Rise of Nations, and Star Wars: Empire at War. :crazyeye:

The only game that applied to me in relation to that comic was Fallout 4 as I didn't have a video card powerful enough to run it and only later down the road came to find out I can find a much lower end card (That doesn't involve getting a new PSU to support the card's power needs) that meets the requirements for the game.

I got an email from Photobucket, informing me that my next year's subscription would be at the same rate as this year's that just ended.

That's $39.99 USD, not the hundreds they tried to squeeze out of everyone who wanted 3rd party hosting, and I get more space than the people paying more (but who weren't grandfathered after pointing out that they were trying to double-charge for the same half-year and the subscription pop-ups saying "these are the great photos you can find on this site" had pornographic images that aren't allowed by Photobucket's own terms).

They have come down in some of their prices, creating some new tiers, but it's too little, too late for some subscribers. They've gone elsewhere.

I've already abandoned imageshack a long time ago when they pulled that stunt. I just rely on imgur nowadays.
