Shopping Thread .. or What Did You Buy?

I bought wireless bandana headphones. They are great for listening music in the bed. You can even sleep on the side without problem.

One of the shops being Amazon but apparently there're some more or less strict rules about transporting batteries etc and since (almost) everything comes via Vilnius most battery operated stuff and/or extra batteries available in Germany will not be shipped here hence I need a local supplier, too

And this is getting even more ridiculous.

The HDMI matrix I ordered (& got) has a RC but they removed the CR2025 battery before shipping it up north. Right after I ordered it I got a letter because there were some "unforeseen major issues" with the order - I admit I expected (much) worse. And when the item arrived I got another letter of apology that they couldn't ship the battery with the rest and very observingly pointed out that since the RC is battery operated I should prolly get the said battery myself before trying to use the RC.

This is partly hilarious but mostly just annoying and making me even more anxious about when the Swedish Amazon starts shipping to Finland.

Elegoo Mars 3 Pro 3d printer, Elegoo Mercury curing station (the small one, not the cure and wash), a small ultrasonic cleaner, and a kilo of Siraya Tech "Fast" resin. Mainly to make my own miniatures for tabletop war games. Paid for most of it using credit card rewards points. I'll probably need to make some kind of fume hood to vent it outside; I haven't opened the bottle of resin yet to see how bad it smells.

My 4K LG TV blew up just three months after the end of the mandatory three years warranty period (never will buy LG again), i managed to partially repair it with the old tape paper trick (so covering some pines of the interior flex cable to disable the short-circuited part of the screen) , but while it remains usable to watch TV and movies it does not as PC monitor due to some perceptible flickering. So i just bought this monster 49" ultrawide monitor:

I have mixed but overwhelming positive feelings about it. While I miss the height of my 43" TV, I couldn't return to the width of a normal 16:9 monitor, this one is 32:9 and 5120×1440, and it is pretty brutal. Can have three different windows opened at the same time easily which comes handy now that i am experimenting with AI art and such, and with the curved shaped I feel as a hacker in a movie of the 90s. An of course it is better for my eyes than any TV.

I also bought a cheap refurbished ATX cage for a few bucks to mount the components of my old but still pretty capable PC (7600k, 1080ti, 32GB RAM) and probably sell it as a gaming PC since I can't think of giving it any use myself, and by the way to pay this monstrous monitor.

I bought 4 new pairs of merino wool socks that are VERY comfy and 8 pairs of other non-merino wool socks which are also VERY comfy.

I am considering throwing out all the other socks I own and just rolling with these 12 pairs. It's all I've been wearing since I acquired them. It would be a significant changing of the sock guard, so I will not make this decision lightly and all my advisors are working overtime to prepare their reports. But that's what could very well be in the cards for 2023 at the warpus residence

Follow-up: Yesterday I fired up the printer for the first time. I should have printed a simple calibration test or something, but I still didn't know how bad the smell would be and was afraid I would only get one shot at it before Wife made me stop until I get an exhaust cabinet for it. So I printed four T30 assault guns, using the automatic supports in Lychee software. It took 3 hours to print, and about 2 hours in I could smell it a little in the basement if I used my imagination, and even then the smell was not horrible. (I thought it would be like my mom's old Toni home permanents plus a strong solvent smell like gasoline) The prints came out awesome, and I was able to take them (unpainted) into battle that evening.

Now to print some test files to dial in the numbers and to practice my cleanup routine.

Surprisingly enough the 8 pairs of regular socks are Tommy Hilfigier and the 4 pairs of merino wool socks are Kirkland. I own a bunch of merino wool/blend socks I have bought at Costco, but all of them are bulky. These new ones seem more compact, they seem a bit cushiony too, so they are comfier to walk in.. but somehow don't take up as much room in a shoe.. but also seem warmer. Overall they seem perfect. For extra cold days I can probably wear the merino socks as a sort of base layer, and the hilfigier socks overtop, although I haven't tried this yet. These should make for excellent hiking socks, and also excellent socks to bring on trips (since merino wool wicks sweat well, dries faster, etc.). It seems to be a blend, but so far so good

@zxcvbob Those are so far and away better than the first 3D printing I did with state of the art machines at Sandia National Labs in 1998. We were trying to replicate hand cast 1/4 scale hominid and great ape skulls. The 3D printing failed completely in comparison to hand casting.

I printed this small skull a couple of years ago with my cheap Chinese Anet 3d printer. As all cheapo filament printers it has good moments and bad moments but I am reasonably happy with the result in this case.

I bought a new pair of heavy Winter shoes and a new pair of snow-boots on Tuesday. Shoes are good, been wearing those the last two days. But I walked around in the boots last night for 20-30 minutes (not outside, just around my apartment) and they were a little too tight. So this morning I went back to the website to get a half-size larger, and the same boots are $60 less than they were 3 days ago (the list price dropped and they're on sale).

You got lucky. When I tried to buy a vacuum cleaner awhile back, the price jumped up by $60 during the 10 minutes between the time I put it in my cart and the time I tried to check out (and thank goodness I noticed).

Noo shoos! 30% off!

(No, not posting pics: but if anyone's curious, they're fairly generic black, EU size 44, 6-hole, lace-up, fleece-lined boots with a padded ankle — to replace the similar, 15-year-old, already-resoled-once Dockers which I noticed a couple of weeks ago, had started to split — the right upper having finally yielded to the Power of my Invincible Bunion).
