Hi All,

I recently got the CivIV: Complete edition (£17.99 form Play, Bargain!), anyway, I just started a new game last night as the Romans, my settler started off in a good location, 3 elephants, 1 cow, 1 pig and stone so I founded Rome got a warrior building and got my existing warior off scouting.

After my warrior got built I started on a worker and then a settler. The warrior I fortified in Rome. The settler founded my next city close to Rome while my original warrior was scouting to the south.

Two turns after founding my second city I get a message saying that Barbarian spearmen had been spotted and that I was going to get the worst of it (lucky me I though). I got my first warior heading back to Rome, the spearmen were too close to my second city so I knew it was lost. As predicted city 2 was lost and the spearmen were marching on Rome, luckyily I still had warrior 2 fortified there and warrior 1 was steaming up from the south, but he wasn't quite going to get there in time.

The spearmen atacked Rome, there were 3 units of them against 1 unit of fortified warriors and to give them due credit they took out 2 full units of spearmen and 2 men from the last unit but, alas, Rome got sacked by the remnants the last spearman unit with warrior 1 only 1 turn away from arriving.

Game over! DOH! Bloomin random events, grumble grumble!

Oh well had to laugh really, the game would be boring without these little things.

cool! i haven't got that random event, just one time i had a message about the rise of the Goths, about six horsemen appeared out of the jungle and attacked my city of Tula (Aztec) fortunately it took a while to the horsemen to move through the jungle, so i had time to bring two axeman reinforcement to help two archers and one spearman that were fortified in the city, the barbarian force was annihilated but it was cool to see these sort of events, it would be cool they happened a little bit more often :)
