A few people on the forums have requested I record some of my experimental Deity challenge games, so I thought I'd give it a try! Let's experience this one together in real-time! ;)

Game 1: Shoshone Empires (completed)
Spoiler :

We are going to play the Shoshone and we are going to settle a huge empire! I do not care if it hurts our early game, we will be big at all costs! After that the plan is to stay competitive and win via science victory. Sound counterintuitive? Well that's kinda the point ;)

To up the stakes I'll be playing this on Deity/Huge/Pangaea. Runaway AI will be a serious problem and the map is too big to stop them so I'll have to rely on smart management of my colossal empire! I'm expecting AI empires of upwards of 20 cities to compete with from past experience. Here's to hoping it'll be as scary and crazy as I think it will be! :D

If you are looking for tips on managing a big empire effectively this series is full of them!

Game 2: Portugal YNAEMP: Iberian Rivalry (current)

This scenario was proposed by Romanian Communist. We'll be playing a 22-civ, 25-CS huge earth map with true spawn locations. We'll play Portugal with Spain also enabled which on this map size crowds Iberia a lot making it almost impossible to expand normally early-game. All other civs are random so we won't know who made it into the game and certain guys with few neighbors may end up snowballing as well! I think it will be very difficult. ;)

We'll attempt to survive being locked off by the Spanish and head for the victory! :D

Part 1: Desperation
Part 2: Blitzkrieg!
Part 3: Stolen Horses
Part 4: Roman Invasion!
Part 5: Mandekalu Terror

I look forward to checking it out when I get home tonight! Thanks.

cool, look forward to hearing your response, I'd love some feedback. :)

On another note, I already recieved a copyright enfringement on this new video literally an hour after I uploaded it? It has nothing but in-game civ 5 music which I am positive I've seen other youtubers have. It's two of the flute portions of the shosone music.
I don't have ads activated and don't want too, but it says whoever is claiming the music has monetized the video with ads xD lame...
Spoiler :

What should I do for future videos, do any other creators have some tips? I'm not interested in running ads on my videos and would like to avoid that hassle for viewers and prevent others from putting them there as well. I could turn off background music too but that takes away the "atmosphere"

Yeah you have turn off all music. You can play some music that fits civ that isn't copy-righted if you want. Also good luck on the play through! Can't wait to see a Shoshone game.

i'll be watching this for sure! too bad about the pantheons, deity AI are crazy about the early faith

Thanks guys for the suggestions! For next video then I will:

- turn off in-game music, probably insert my own ambience of some sort that is freeware
- turn on quick combat and quick movement

I was noticing the abrupt ending looked bad too, sorry about that I wasn't paying attention to time and forgot to say bye! I may try setting a timer and doing an outro for 30 minute episodes. Does anyone have a length preference?

It's a busy week but this game is shaping up to be a VERY interesting one and I'm excited to continue, I've already given a lot of thought to my next moves! I have decided on my plan now given the terrain but feel free to make suggestions if you want to see me do something. I will try to record again and have a 30-minute part 2 by end of thursday.

There are obviously a lot of religious AI this game but my choices should net me a solid religion. You are allowed a few more then usual on a huge map but I didn't realize how much harder the world size would make founding on Deity. In addition to more piety AI there are also more AI discovering religious CS before me this game. I'm hoping for at least 5th religion since I was 5th pantheon. If I can manage that I can probably net some good beliefs. It's going to be a gamble though! ;)

In "Bad Dirt", WHY don't you have HARBORS ?? You pass up a LOT of gold from city connections !!

With an Ocean Empire, HARBORS are a BASIC building !!! So you use a city cycle building 'em; but more CSs want and get cash faster .

Are you talking about a different video? I don't have a harbor because my capital is land-locked and you don't start with the tech? Can't build ships or harbors without coastal cities and I only have the one city in the first 20 turns of the game! ;) Harbors only become available later after certain tech.

Harbors are ok for an ocean empire but hardly high enough priority to skip other things when a city is first founded even if I had a coastal city. Growth and production are always more important then gold, plus harbors have a high maintenance cost. In this game with Pangaea and an empire land-locked, all my city connections will be roads as a result. I don't need harbors. If you meant trade routes, there are potential city spots on the coast that I can eventually build cargo ships from, but I haven't had time to settle them by Turn 28 and, in fact, the most valuable spots are farther inland. I'm more interested in the 4-5 science from trading camels with the AI then ships to CS as this is Deity and they are ahead. I can get my gold via trading away resources instead.

Glad to hear! I just finished recording #5 and man it gets fun soon! ;) What pacing would you guys like? I was thinking one video every 2 days, but I'm interested enough I might double up a few days. :D

PART 4 is out!

Sorry for my voice in the beginning lol. Here we begin building some infrastructure and pump out a few more settlers to expand, putting us up to 7 cities after the settlers find their spots :) But there will be many more hehe!

Part 4: Expand the Empire!

I need you guys opinion around episode 5 about how I will play this. I'm doing well enough I could finish a VERY fast science victory if I stopped building cities at 9 or 10 and just accelerated to the end. That is a big empire but I could expand even bigger but it would be at the cost of extra game turns. Let me know what would be more interesting to watch! Regardless I think I will win this one, but huge may surprise me yet, the Ottomans and a few other AI are beginning to build their own steam. ;)

Claims (both fair use violations and outright bogus claims) are rampant on YouTube with minimal consequences to the claimant.

More than SOPA idiocy there needs to be legal penalties for people making unsubstantiated claims on YouTube/similar sites. People have been tagged with copyright claims and lost revenue on videos where they're making their own music.

Definitely counter-claim that crap so the leeches aren't getting freebies, but yeah I guess stick with commons if you're worried about it otherwise.

Yeah this is my first experience with it. But it does seem kind of a silly system. I was reading about the new youtube auto-flagging system. If the author doesn't respond to your counter-claim you apparently still can't get it removed for 30 days so it's basically free money for them if they just ignore the entire system. After 30 days most of the views on a video are over, so that seems a bit broken. Doesn't really affect me since I haven't monetized my videos but for youtubers that actually do it for a living I guess the only recourse is to be really careful with audio.

I finished Part 5! It was a fun episode but unfortunately I realized after the fact that my recording was lagging and this introduced a buzz into the audio recording. I put it through several filters and enhancements and it's better now but still annoying. So, I apologize. Found the problem and next video should be nice again! I'll put out part 6 tomorrow. :)

Part 5: War Drums

We need a vote! Do I stop at 10 cities and play this game for a fast science victory or do I keep expanding into the surrounding lands? The latter strategy will extend the game and make it harder to win, but could potentially be more fun. :)

I'll put up a poll on video 6 which I've just finished.

This series is so cool. Please finish this game whatever style you like.

I also usually play large/huge maps since it feels like you are actually growing an EMPIRE not a few city states. Logistic matters, international affairs matters even more, etc.

I failed to find any decent huge map LPs on youtube, so you definitely covering a very good niche.

PS. Subscribed.

I haven't finished watching the videos (I'm still on #4).

But--since you think you can win a fast science victory, then why not just just go for as big as you can? Show us what can be done!!!!

You can always save the file and if the huge empire doesn't work out, show us the science victory when you play it that way.

Thanks MrDiap! I will definitely plan to finish it out, I'm enjoying recording actually! :D Already thinking about my next fun game. I was considering a huge colonization of the new world challenge scenario where I play as the Aztecs with the express goal of conquering every European colony and driving them off the continent. :D What do you guys think? I got a few other ideas as well. :)

based on your responses I'm leaning towards continuing to settle an even bigger empire! But we'll see once the poll response is finished. :)
I just linked it on the video.
