Should I get Firefox?

All I know is, every so often (and it doesn't seem to follow any pattern vis-a-vis websites or timing), FF decides it wants to use 100% CPU and use up an extra 75kb every second. After about 30 minutes, memory usage shoots up from ~150mb to 300mb.

It's happened with every version of Firefox that I've used, on any machine that I've used. In Vista, the problem's not so bad with memory, but it still on occasion uses 100% CPU to use this forum, facebook, and bbc news.

Update.... IE is doing way better in memory management than FF is.

While I know I am the odd man out and most won't agree with me I have been using Chrome since it's release and I have enjoyed it. It still needs some fine adjustments but I plan to stay with it'

I should run Chrome on that memtest as well.

I don't like it much. Not polished enough for me. (Get it?;))

Opera but you'll need FF aswell because some (irritating) sites give Opera the (crappy) IE6 version.

On XP FF only ever uses less than 100 MB for normal browsing, even with the map on, FF3 doesn't use any more than 120 MB. The MOST I've ever had it use is about 150-170, when I'm streaming very long movies while having many tabs open. Memory usage excess of hundreds of MB sounds insane to me I've never ever had it happen...When FF ever goes over 150 I shut it down and bring up Opera. Opera typically never uses more than 60-100 no matter what I'm doing.

FF does frequently have memory leakage and CPU usage problems with me, but those are easy enough to deal with. On my 512 MB laptop(don't laugh at me!) I can run FF3, Winamp, and Illustrator and have memory left. I definitely don't have the processor power to have each of them active, but they're all up and running.

Although I've had to reduce the graphic settings on Civ4 somewhat, I've managed to play Civ4, run Winamp, Yahoo Messenger, Firefox (on a bunch of tabs -- uploading videos to YouTube), and a few other miscellaneous programs all at once and yes I kept them active.
I have a 1 gig machine. Actually, 992 MB. And them being active may be more of a processor thing than memory, as my computer light keeps going on. It goes on when processor's doing something.

I use Firefox now and after using IE for about 2 years I can say its MUCH MUCH MUCH better.

I would use chrome but I can't scroll up on my touch screen mouse wheel thingie. It's to annoying to use, so I'm hopeing for a update to fix this then I'll use chrome.
