Should I get founders or deluxe editions?

I would compare the track records of Civ VI and Beyond Earth. BE had one DLC and one expansion, with nothing further. No balance patches, nothing. Whatever plans they had at launch, they were dramatically cut back based on the performance in the market.

Civ6, on the other hand, was planned to have frequent DLC when it launched in 2016. They may have even planned for the expansions -- at launch -- but I doubt that they knew they would release the New Frontier Pass or Leader Pass, back in 2016. Plans change...

So these "edition packs", I don't care for the skins or tile sets or all that other nonsense. Do we know if one can buy the personas individually or is it exclusive to the pack?

As I understand, some platforms require selling items separately, so it will be possible, but I believe buying them in pack is still money saver. I don't think "cosmetics" cost anything extra in any of those packs.

Seems to me only the Deluxe pack is available for individual purchase. It's not clear if you'll be able to buy just the persona or if those will be bundled together with the cosmetics. They also mention a "Deluxe Cosmetic Pack" within the "Deluxe Content Pack":

What's a "Narrative and Wonder Pack"? I can see it having more narrative events, but why mention wonders a second time? Is it even more natural/world wonders?

This is what I've been struggling with. Here in the US, it $70 for the base game and $30 more for the Deluxe and Founders editions. I am still trying to decide if I think it's worth it to spend $30 for 2 Leader Personas, 2 Leaders, and 4 Civilizations plus a bunch of other stuff I couldn't care less about (the "4 New Wonders" part is redundant since, in Civ 7, each Civilization has a Wonder associated with it).

What do you mean by “redundant”?

It's not redundant. One of the packs will not add any new buildable wonders and instead will add natural wonders. This means the "associated wonder" for the new civs will be previously existing wonders in the game.

For me, only Firaxis can answer this question, if at least, 1 of the 4 new Leaders is someone I want to use, I'll get whichever edition has him

I don’t think it’s redundant, either.

Wait until at least the end of embargo then decide how cautious you want to be.

I'm still waiting to see if we get any indication what's in those extra packs. I think in the end, I know I'll want all the leaders and civs, so I'll probably just buy the big pack anyways. But I can tell myself I can wait and see.

The graphic only says “4 New Wonders” so I assumed they were all world wonders. Based on that assumption, saying both “4 New Civilizations“ *and* “4 New Wonders” seemed redundant to me because every civilization has an associated Wonder. It’s like saying “4 New Civilizations + 4 New Capital Cities.”

PSA: GreenManGaming has a 15% discount code (JAN15) on their home page for any order, seemingly including all editions of Civ 7. They had similar codes listed for the last two months as well, but who knows if they will do one for February, so I think I’ll preorder at the end of January. (I only preorder civ games, and as late as possible.) They are legit, I’ve preordered every civ game (with a discount) through them since Civ 5’s launch.

I don’t think criticizing game content is the logical conclusion to a comment questioning the value of getting the game a few days early. The context implies that there will be issues to be fixed soon after launch, which again would have to be technical, not design choices.

The Civ 7 late game content will be the late game content whether it’s 4 days before release or at release. The game will be the game.

I’m asking you for specific details to back up this claim you’re making that Firaxis is somehow known for delivering games filled with technical issues at launch. If you can’t, that’s OK; I think the claim is wrong so I’m asking for evidence to the contrary is all.
I'm pretty sure that if we were to go through all of the patches that Civ V, in particular, had post launch that there would be an accurate historical record of all of the bug fixes applied. There were quite a few over the first year and I clearly remember the game crashing with graphics issues from time to time and I have been lucky enough to run high end machines relative to specified game specs. Civ VI was a much better experience anecdotally and I expect Civ VII will be better again however we will see soon enough. I'd be surprised if we don't see a bug thread in this forum for Civ VII however. It's not a criticism of Firaxis; this is normal product development lifecycle activities and end user experience. A new product is released, it has some problems, the users complain, the devs fix the bugs or improve the features and the game gets better. It is a symbiotic existence. We just shouldn't expect the game to be perfect from day one. Criticism is a justified and legitimate reaction in this process. Complaining and taking pot shots is not.

I guess it matters what the expansions will cost later, cos i'll probably eventually get them. I don't really care about extra clothes or whatever.

Since they haven't revealed the pricing of the DLC or if and which content is exclusive to the various editions, I don't think there is enough information to judge whether they are worth buying.

I'm not a particular fan of schemes that ask you to pay for content a year before it's available. Especially when it's from a large corporation and not some indy developer that needs such support.
There's preorder extras.
Which one comes with Napoleon Bonaparte? (Revolutionary era General, and Emperor)
and which comes with Shawnee and Tecumseh?

This is the issue. We know nothing. We don't know what will be sold separately. We don't know what price they will assign to any DLC. We don't know when it will be released. There is no information on which to base a decision.

IMHO, buy the standard edition. If and when they actually release DLC packs, decide then. Don't get FOMO'd into buying due to some "personas" or a multiplayer banner or some digital bauble. No, early access is not worth the extra cost, either. We see this over and over with games that offer this: early access is essentially a beta test period.
