Should I picket the church of Scientology in Vancouver?

Good idea to picket the church of Scientology?

The plan: get a video camera, paint a big sign that says "Scientology Kills", print out leaflets outlining the hundreds of people the church has killed with their anti-psychiatry beliefs and the lives of countless other critics the church has tried to destroy for speaking out against them, the fact that the church's attempted infiltration of the IRS which landed 11 high profile scientologists in prison still remains the single largest infiltration of the US government in history, and head downtown to the church located here in Vancouver.

Of course, I will make it clear that I have no problem with Scientologist beliefs (except for the anti-psychiatry practice). Those are, in and of themselves, harmless. They're silly, but if you want to believe them, whatever.

No, the problem is with the murderous and illegal activities of the church itself, the organization promoting the beliefs.

Good idea?

Poll coming.

If you can assure the legality of it, sure! Have fun!

If you want to inform others about Scientology, then i'd pick another location to set up shop. If you want to annoy Scientologists, then doing it in front of the church is ideal, of course. You probably won't need the leaflets, though, as angry cult members will probably take up all your time.

That's part of the point: to demonstrate how they react to their critics. "You're here because you have crimes to hide!!!" and so forth.

If you want to, do it. The bourgeouis canadian democracy grants you freedom of expression.

(OK, uncalled for).

Nah, it's cool. Little joking pot-shots are okay to me.

Sounds like fun. I'd join ya If I could. Just remember to watch out for their retaliation, try bringing along some friends

Bring Friends - Armed Friends.

If things go south on you, best have someone at your side to help beat a hasty retreat.

Or, do the more Canadian thing as try to ensure that there's some police presence in the area on the day(s) of your demonstration. Be sure all your legal ducks are in a row, and the ol' cultists will be quite out of line if they try to hault your activities.

Why would I need to be armed? They wouldn't dare physically assault me, certainly not on camera.

Legal ducks? I have never committed any crimes. Well, when I was 12 I stole a chocolate bar from a grocery store, but that's about it. Aside from that, my record is squeaky clean.

And lastly, the neighbourhood the church in Vancouver is located in is right next to the Downtown Eastside, haven of drugs and prostitution. Though there might not be police immediately outside the church, there will be plenty nearby.

Please make the news! Nothing to bad just enough to get a blip on the 24 hour news whore networks.

I promise I will upload the video to google video for your viewing pleasure.

Have fun! And do post up pictures and videos before the evil Scientologists get you and confiscate your stuff that "Blasphimize" the holy L. Ron and his evil Xenu!

Long live XENU!!
万歳、ゼヌー!

I'm torn, I truly am. I love watching Scientology being annoyed, but... Okay, I can't find a counterargument. Picket away! :D

Right, the camera.

If I were doing it I'd still prefer to bring something along in case I get them really stirred up. :shifty:

If you feel safe enough, go right ahead.

In the immediate sense, being sure that they can't try to spin the event off as some sort of attack against them. Recording everything should make things easy for you, but it may be nice to have some permit or legal code up your sleave.

Perfect.

Well, I guess all I'd have left to say is make yourself comfortable for the day. Bring a cooler, some chairs, make a day of it. If things go well, you could raise some awareness and turn it into an event.

As someone here said previously, try to get on the news and tell us when it will be on! ;)

Do you mean that I should research all the legal mumbo jumbo to ensure that what I'll be doing is entirely legal, and memorize it so I can spit it out to them on the spot?

And this all won't be happening for a few weeks; I need to find someone who will lend me a video camera since I don't have one of my own.
