Should Ivory have been a strategic Resource?

Seems to be that the strategic benefits of Ivory far outweigh any other benefits for this resource.

Also, it would have make the Kymer a less hit or miss civ to play.

I'm not sure about the RL accuracy of this (Asia and Africa??) but from a gameplay perspective, sure would have been good.

Another benefit would have been that some wonders could have been double production with Ivory, although again I don't know of any that really did include ivory.

Um.

Ivory IS considered a strategic resource (although good for :) also). In BTS, it speeds up the construction of the statue of zeus.

I'm not sure what you're missing with it. It's already incredible.

One of the wonders does get a production bonus with ivory (statue of zeus? or something else right in that timeframe...can't remember).

I love it when I see ivory-for the happy bonus. I really do not use the elephants much as I tend to play peacefully up until muskets/rifling so I would be upset if it were only a strategic resource. Also, if it were a strategic resource, would that not mean that a majority of all civs each game would get ivory (like they do Iron/Bronze etc). That would pretty much negate the usefulness of horses during the horse archer period.

Ivory is not placed on the map like a usual strategic resource, though, no? Aren't all the other strategic resources spaced out and placed with some frequency? Whereas the placement of ivory has more in common with the dye/silk types of resources--all bunched together, with maybe two clumps (if you are lucky) over the entire globe. That means usually one or two civs get to hog all the ivory on the planet, and good luck trading for it....

Of course, ivory should be found in the equatorial region, but at least 4 clumps of it, please!

This is why Sury is easily nerfed: no ivory, no UU.

When I random roll and get Sury, I check WB for ivory nearby and reroll the map if I don't get it. Three strikes and it's out, back to main menu restart if the map is denying me my UU.

You should consider using elephants. They are ridiculously strong.

There is no counter to elephants that doesn't get soundly beaten by axes until gunpowder...although castles really slow down your siege.

Ah , forgot about the status of Zeus

From an XML perspective, Ivory is a Luxury resource and not a strategic resource. Thats why its in clumps and not thinly spread across the world.

Well it wouldn't make too much sense for it to be thinly spread across the world like copper or horses, elephants live together in a few specific locations on the globe.

You can limit strategic resources to certain terrain types - they could be plains and jungle, for example
