Should the US Invade Greenland (Denmark) & Panama

My policy on the elderly Donald Trump, and younger others of his ilk such as Elon Musk, is to ignore them if possible.

If ignoring them is not possible, then it is best to be polite and listen to what they say, but negotiate nothing.

But politicians often fall into the trap of assuming that getting into a dialogue will satisfactorily resolve matters.

But perhaps Lars Lokke Rasmussen's meeting later this year is simply a delaying tactic in the hope that
by then the force of unfolding world events will have diverted Donald Trump's mind away from Greenland.

Now if I was Donald, I'd send Elon Musk to talk about ASML and building chip factories in the USA etc
to reduce US dependence upon Taiwan.
ignore them as to... what? how? ignore who for what purpose? i have no clue what you're on about

Interesting Guardian Article

i saw this, but figured it meant last week as in last week, so i'm unsure how much news this is besides (indeed) there being an actual report of trump yelling at our PM over the phone.

the weird thing is that we are *still* actually not within the jurisdiction to sell greenland. trump just decided to call up our PM and yell at her over it.

does last week mean this week, or is does it mean last week?

When Donald Trump calls just let your driver pick up the phone, “Pm is out for lunch sir, can I take a message..”. 👍

They are all just too eager to talk to this idiot.

I suddenly remember a discussion from a few weeks back, when the Russians denied to have ever recieved his call, could this be the reason ?

As an American who voted for Harris (not because I like her but to keep Trump out of office) I apologize for the behavior and words of our current president to the world including Denmark.

I wish he spoke no language at all, because it would be better if he never say anything.

Ridicule is more deadly to the dictator than anger…

Trump, who has long claimed that his predecessors’ weak leadership prompted other nations “to laugh” at the US. appeared flustered and responded, “I didn’t expect that reaction, but that’s OK.”

Later, as he was leaving the U.N., he told reporters that he had meant to be funny.

“Oh it was great, well, that was meant to get some laughter, so it was great,” he said.

That's from roughly a thousand years ago, though. Currently Eu leaders can't afford to laugh at Trump, due to the deepening of the vassalage status under Biden.

What embarrasses me more than trump himself is that most Americans voted to re elect him.

Well, Denmark apparently isn't doing anything with Greenland, and if the US had the territory then we'd be able to raise the standard of living for the Greenlandic people as well as have access to more resources and a strategically useful position. I see this as an absolute win.

Invasion is unlikely. It's far more likely that the US will bribe the Greenlandic people to support US acquisition (there's only like 50k of them) and they will vote to apply to be a US territory, and Denmark will be unable to block it.

Certainly non-invasion will be the first option. But if it fails, US can just state its claim to uninhabited area and gradually annex all of the uninhabited area - which is what matters, after all. They can build their own colonies just fine.
Timing is perfect for that as the Eu is estranged from all other main powers (Russia-China), and controlled by the US in finance/energy.

The US can do lots of things, but it's not the 19th Century and people are not going to react the same way as they might have done 150 years ago.

it's insane that you even think this is somehow reasonable

I've seen estimates that the oil, gas, and mineral deposits within Greenland measure in the trillions so if we give every Greenlandic person $1 million to support the deal, that would be $57 billion, and that would apparently be a bargain.

Lots of countries were split in recent times - by the US too, and Nato. If it wasn't the 19th century then, it's not that now either surely?
Border change, which was once regarded as illegal, has happened a lot.
The case of Greenland wouldn't even need that, due to its tiny population it won't be left to nominally control a subcontinent-sized area if the main powers have other plans.
