Interesting Guardian Article

Besides bullying Columbia with 25% tariffs yesterday, Trump also raked Denmark over the coals on Friday.

How long until the CIA shows up in Greenland with suitcases full of money? :hmm:

The officials briefed on the call said that the Danish leader had offered more cooperation on military bases and mineral exploitation, but Trump was adamant that he wanted the territory.

"The intent was very clear. They want it. The Danes are now in crisis mode," one source told the FT. Another added: "The Danes are utterly freaked out by this."

Tariffs on Denmark have to be slightly more likely now after Columbia.

They are part of the EU though.

If Mr. Trump decides to pressure Denmark with economic means, through tariffs, the European Union itself would be expected to respond as a whole with countertariffs, said Zaki Laïdi, a professor at Sciences Po and an adviser to the former E.U. foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell Fontelles.

Surely Trump won't do it?

I'd keep my eyes out for any Greenland Independence groups driving around in new mustang convertibles.

Not sure what color revolution that would be.

I registered a while ago then realized I didn't care to post, since I could read topics without posting or even signing in. Now with the imminent release of Civ 7 I figured I would finally post on my account.
To be fair, i've seen accounts that are 20+ years old that have 1 or 2 posts.

Why are all of your posts in OT (according to your profile) then?

Denmark seems to be a very nice society - not that I can know, only visited their capital once. Yet it isn't a major power, nor even geopolitically important.
There does seem to be some correlation between the two characteristics.

I've seen estimates that the oil, gas, and mineral deposits within Greenland measure in the trillions so if we give every Greenlandic person $1 million to support the deal, that would be $57 billion, and that would apparently be a bargain.
Whether it is US interests to acquire Greenland is not the point (this is coming from an American). We are not entitled to it. Period. It doesn't belong to us. The fact the Denmark is in NATO thus making it a betrayal is nails in the coffin, but not the main point. It's that we would be taking something that isn't ours. I want America (my country) to be a friend of the world and not a bully. Then again sadly most of my fellow Americans elected a bully to be the president and now here we are.

As an independent nation, we will send them an invitation to participate in Eurovision and UEFA, do they play football there ?
Apparently, but they don't play championship qualifiers and the like since they are not members of FIFA. Seems they mostly play Iceland and Faroe Islands. If Greenland goes independent they likely will enter FIFA.

Not unexpected :

this much more aligns with my reasonably local experience of the attitude there.

@Arwon i don't know much about greenland's english knowledge, but i don't think it's so poor that they wouldn't naturally understand a questionnaire. remember they are a modern tech state with western media and such, and there's just not a lot of that made in greenlandic or danish, which is a big reason us smaller countries are often good at english. i'm only reluctant to be certain about their english proficiency because i haven't read any stats on it. whenever i've seen any greenlander speak or write english, they were as proficient as any dane, and i know that danes rank very highly in english on a global level; as in quite close to native speakers.

i want to give the poll the benefit of the doubt and say that they probably did a bad phrasing where "part of america" was misconstrued as "independence", and let's just presume they screwed up.

like i don't think they did, but at best, it was useless and should still not be taken seriously.
