This bloke was promoted from Lt Col to Col after putting this out in public,Lt. Col. Ralph Kauzlarich.

("When you die, I mean, there is supposedly a better life, right? Well, if you are an atheist and you don't believe in anything, if you die, what is there to go to? Nothing. You are worm dirt. So for their son to die for nothing, and now he is no more — that is pretty hard to get your head around that. So I don't know how an atheist thinks. I can only imagine that that would be pretty tough.")

Makes the question come up, who do the US military serve, some deity named god or the USA ?

Should he have been promoted or fired or does the US army expect all its troops to have xtian beliefs ?

Someone duped into the myth they are going someplace better after death is someone you want in a job that could get them killed. Bin Laden knew this to almost the same extent as our military leadership.

Something tells me Bin laden actually believed in Islam.

I think that the US military should probably stop murdering all those thousands of innocent people first and maybe deal with moronic comments about religion made by its soldiers later.

Are there really people who think atheists are all super-nihilists?

If only it were that nice.

Everyone makes stupid statements at sometime

Just look here

Was he imposing his beliefs on anyone else? Was he stating his opinion? No and yes - so what is the problem here?

What grounds would there have been for firing or reprimand in this case? What legal jurisdiction super-cedes his right to a personal religious belief? None that I see here (from the info you have provided)

I looked up at the mirror and am trying to figure out which of the two gals has made a stupid statment.

Well that just proves my point.

Spoiler :
Why are you typing what you can see in the mirror rather than doing something about it

I had this theory once, that mirrors are negative worlds. Whatever exists in this world can not be seen in it, and things can be glimpsed at, briefly, that don't exist here.

I wondered if this would mean god could be seen in the mirror. I was right, and upon further reflection, I left.

Obviously this also just proves my point

"supposedly". He knows. That's so cute!

Yeah, it´s tough. But us atheists are a hardy bunch.

Underlined is really tasteless though.

It's pretty mild compared to many other comments by similar officers.

I'm far more concerned with his role in the Tillman cover up and the allegations that he told his soldiers to kill civilians in Iraq after being hit by an IED.

If it's only his personal beliefs, that's one thing. But if he was biased against atheists or actively denied them the same benefits and privileges as non-atheists, he should be fired. And yes, I do think the US military expects all its troops (or at least its cannon-fodder) to have religious beliefs that tell them it's okay to kill because they'll be forgiven, and it's okay to be killed because the "afterlife" is So Much Better than the real life they have now.

Interesting, so because he was a Lt Col he can say what he wants under US army regulations.
So does the same right of free speech apply to some Pvt in the US army ?

I think it is rather expected under many circumstances.

But it isn't just the evil Muslims and the holy war against Islam:

I have studied Marxist insurgency. It was part of my training. And the things I know have been done in every Marxist insurgency are being done in America today.

The third thing they do is discredit their opposition. I've never been so angry with my government as when the Department of Homeland Security memorandum went around to law enforcement all over the country saying that the future threats to America were right wing Christian groups, pro life groups, Second Amendment groups, and returning veterans.

The hate crime legislation that has been passed is actually targeted at pastors. It is targeted at pastors so they don't get up on the pulpit and talk about things like homosexuality and same sex marriage.

The only thing he really missed was the plot to poison our precious bodily fluids.
