Shuffle map?

In a bid to find myself surprised by some weird, wonderful and quite random maps, I've recently loaded up custom games on the "shuffle" option. However, I have found that the last three games I've started under this so-called "shuffle" map option have resulted in exactly the same kind of map, namely one massive continent, containing all the civs, the rest of the map being a huge ocean and perhaps one or two poxy little islands and that's it.

Is there something wrong with the "shuffle" map option or my expectations?

the problem with randomness is that humans can't detect it ;)

you can't proof something isn't random.

I thought Shuffle just picked randomly between Pangaea, Continents and Fractal, or something like that? People have recently started talking as if it's a brand new and unique map type - have I missed something?

no, you're right, it just uses another maptype randomly.

i think fractal is also random but a unique map type.

If "shuffle" uses other map types randomly, how come I've got a 3 out of 3, 100% result for "one big fat continent and nothing else". Is it just a coincidence? What results have others got when choosing the "shuffle" map option? And does anyone really know what it is supposed to be?

Coincidence.

Shuffle produces one of Archipelago, Continents, Fractal or Pangaea randomly.
OK thanks. I'd be interested to see screenies of maps produced by this shuffle setting.

I heard you the first time and think you're a very clever fellow. I also hope you manage to remove whatever it is you have in your eye.

I believe you can check the code (can't now, wil edit post later) for the specs on Shuffle.

you can quickly get a feel for "what will these map settings end up like" without spoiling the suspense of a real game using WB by setting up a Custom Game with the map options you're curious about, Future Start. you'll see the entire map as soon as the game begins. it's not scientific and can be streaky like your real games seemed to be, but it often helps me.
