The St. Patrick's Day v2.01 includes:
*Irish Civilization
*All city names in Irish (Gaeilge) (+ Iúr Cinn Trá for Wolfe Tone)

*Unique graphics for IRA Volunteers
*New Government: Brehon Law

*New Techs: Brehon Law & Guerrilla Warfare
*Still (unanimated) De Valera leaderheads
*Civilopedia entries for Ireland, IRA Volunteers, Brehon Law, GAA & Book of Kells

The Irish civ replaces the Iroquois. I don't believe that there are any more bugs. If you do find one, please let me know - brendan.ryan@oceanfree.net Sorry for anyone trying to get me at my old email address, but it's been down for some time now.

Just in case you're wondering, I had to close the last Sibhialtacht thread because there was a problem uploading files.

Shaitan: As I said in the last thread, you're welcome to use Brehon Law and the city names in your mod (this inspiration for my own!).

Wolfe Tone: I was at a game in Clones in '97 when Tipp beat down in the q/final. Down really surprised me in the first half. You would be much stronger if you could get more clubs started up there. Are you on the Ards pen?

Mod looks great! I found a couple of civilopedia fixes for you. Check these sections:

#GCON_Unit_Support
add ^Brehon Law 2 4 8

#GCON_Governments
change ^* $LINK<Democracy=GOVT_Brehon_Law> to ^* $LINK<Brehon Law=GOVT_Brehon_Law>

#GCON_Hurry_Production
add Brehon Law link to the "pay for hurrying" governments.

Thanks Shaitan, it's really tedious trying to go through all those long, endless Civilopedia files. Still taking suggestions for next version v1.02/v2.00 which I hope will be out Friday/Saturday.

Happy to help :)

I have a couple of ideas for new wonders:

Replace the Forbidden Palace with the Stone of Scone. I know it's more properly a Scottish item but what the heck - the Scots were Irish too!

The Blarney Stone - Increases happiness, decent culture bonus.

Replace Sun Tzu with Dagda's Caldron. Duplicates the caldron's ability to restore health to dead and wounded soldiers.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Stone of Scone is a good one, maybe I could broaden the mod to include Scotland. I'm not sure about the Blarney Stone  It's generally regarded as more of a cheap tourist attraction than anything of significant cultural value. Dagda's Cauldron is another good one, but how do you think I might simulate the effects you spoke about?

I'm including a list of the Irish placenames in the mod, complete with their anglicised translations for non-Irish speakers and Irish people who can't speak their first official language :). Here it goes...

Baile Átha Cliath - Dublin
Béal Feirste - Belfast
Corcaigh - Cork
Luimneach - Limerick
Gailleamh - Galway
Cill Chainnigh - Kilkenny
Port Láirge - Waterford
Doire - Derry
Ard Mhacha - Armagh
Baile Átha Luain - Athlone
Caiseal - Cashel
Trá Lí - Tralee
Durlas - Thurles
Cluain Mhic Nóis - Clonmacnoise
Baile Átha an Rí - Athenry
Maigh Nuad - Maynooth
Cill Mhantáin - Wicklow
Dún Dealgan - Dundalk
Loch Gorman - Wexford
An Muileann gCearr - Mullingar
Ceatharlach - Carlow
Tulach Mhór - Tullamore
Tiobraid Árann - Tipperary
Port Omna - Portumna
Béal an Átha - Ballina
Mala - Mallow
Inis Ceithlinn - Enniskillen
Ceanannas - Kells
Cionn tSáile - Kinsale
Gleann Dá Loch - Glendalough
Muineachán - Monaghan
Inis - Ennis
Sligeach - Sligo
Cluain Meala - Clonmel
Droichead Átha - Drogheda
Latharna - Larne
Brú na Boinne - Newgrange
An tSionainn - Shannon

Most of them are modern large towns, but some such as Chluain Mhic Nóis, Baile Átha an Rí, Brú na Boinne and Gleann Dá Loch are there for historical/cultural reasons.

Don't forget...version 1.02/2.00 to be released next weekend

For the cauldron: There's no way to bring back the dead but if it replaces Sun Tzu it will have the effect of healing wounded units when they spend a turn in a city (barracks in each city).

For the Blarney stone: How about a bonus to economics then? Simulates tourism.

Another little bug - You need a civilopedia graphic for Brehon Law and an entry in the "#Non-Tech Govts" section of the pediaicons.txt file.

*New Techs: Brehon Law & Guerrilla Warfare
- Brehon Law allows Brehon Law Government
- Guerrilla Warfare allows the production of the IRA Volunteers

*New Wonder: GAA
- The Gaelic Athletic Association will be added in an attempt simulate the revival of cultural nationalism in the late 19th century Ireland. The GAA is now one of the largest (possibly the largest) independent voluntary sporting organizations in the world.

*De Valera still graphics, as leaderhead. I'm still looking into this one, and will decide on it's addition based on it's aesthetic value.

*New placenames (about 5 being considered)

*Automatic installation batch files

*Adds Ireland, without removing Iroquois (17 civs, but still in testing)

*Additions to Civilopedia

*watch_this_space

I can't wait for the next version.

How about adding Iur Cinn Trá/Newry (I think that's the right spelling) to the list of cities it used to be a pretty important trading post

I think the GAA should enhance the effect of collesums as well as generating a huge cultural value, well it has spread to the US and Australia (I love those Compromise rules matches.) The GAA wonder should have the image of Croke Park (when it city view) with a couple of tri-colours around it

Version 2.00 has been delayed... sorry... but hopefully it should be ready by next weekend. There's still a few things I have to wrap up in the design, then there's the testing. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to provide the 17 civs option, because the game keeps crashing in the advisor screen. I'll provide a screenshot soon.

Hey there,

I've been working on an Irish mod myself for awhile, but I'm focusing more on the ancient Irish, BEFORE all the occupation and whatnot. I'll post it as soon as I've got it set up, but this is my first mod, so it's taking me awhile, and I've run into a major problem... For the mod, I replaced Rome with Ireland, and the special unit is the Fianna, which replaces the Legionary. The problem is that whenever I finish building a Fianna unit in one of my cities, the game gives me an error and craps out. I'm thinking that there is probably something I'm missing about swapping out units/civs, but I can't figure out what it is. Did anyone else run into this problem or hear of it at all?

Thanks,
Ryan

You need an ART file for the unit. As it is now, the game doesn't know what image to use for the unit because there's nothing associated with "Fianna".

The easiest way to create a new unit is to use Gramphos' CopyTool. It will set up an ART folder with the necessary files.

So when will the next version of this mod be released. I'm looking forward to seeing De Valera's leaderhead

This is a great mod, I can't wait to see the future versions.

I amde my own Irish civ for Civ3, but I obviously didn't go as in depth as you ;) I have Brian Boru as their leader and the IRA Soldiers and Celts as special units. I've figured out how to make another civ spot, so I don't have to worry about replacing any civs.

PS. How come you decided to make DeValera the leader? Obviously I'm not an Irish citizen, but I know a good chunk of the history and from what I understand he wasn't the most beloved leader.

Well celtic_bhoy hasn't posted in a month so I think this is a lost cause

As far as v2.02 goes, it's really going to be a fix of some problems in 2.01. I might also get a new DeValera graphic.

Changes will include:
- corrected Civilopedia
- toned-down IRA Volunteers & GAA
- changes to Brehon Law
