Sid Game Progress Sharing?

Allright, I know this is my fourth post in a row, but...

Funky cities, don't you think?

FunkyCities.JPG

That's right, I captured the GL, and even better, I ran out of MDI with one redlined musket left, and a SM finished him off, getting a GA! Perfect timing to get this IA infra. Also, I have iron and coal :cooool: . I don't know where to go from here though. The Iro won't get much bigger, as France has hundreds of cav ready to pounce of the couple they send via galley (they're at war) so they're not a worry, but I need to keep up. I think I'll keep up by stealing, but from who? Every civ with anything I want has colonies with tons of units that could kill me, so I need an army first, sadly. Or I could bribe them. I don't know.

I've played a while without updates, just thought I should show you my new little project :) .

Babylon and Persia are also building it, but they're both building it in unproductive cities far from the capital. I have had a bad rep (incidental trading routes messed up) and there is a world war going on, causing many to be furious, but I think enough bribing prior to the election should do the trick :) . If not I will be midly dissapointed.

Edit: New intelligents proves both Iro and Bab would beat me to it, sadly. But in 7 turns I will sabotage both cities productions, and switching every city to wealth has jacked up my income by 300 gpt  .

Babylon beat me to the UN :( , no election held. I have disbanded my entire mil, working towards bombers, carriers, and a marine  . The Iro have 8 parts, one more in progress. I have eleven turns to capture it before the next election chance, and if eleven turns past before Hiawatha's in space that would be a miracle. If 12 bombers kill all the mechs guarding the UN that would be a miracle. If I hold the city for a turn, that would be a miracle. If I win the election, that would sorta be expected. All in all, not likely chance to win.

Investigated Mari (UN city, on a small island away from mainland) and it has 4 mechs, 2 reg one vet, one conscript, and a modern armor and a tow, and lots of boats. The bombers will go for the boats first, sadly, won't they? Over a course of many bombardment turns I think it's doable. 2 infantry might hold it, might not. I'm timing it on turn eleven after they build it so I only have to hold it for one turn. Or maybe I can use airfields for reinforcements :) .

Also a jet fighter in there to kill a bomber every turn :( .

Hiawatha has 9 parts, but none it progress.

A new game with a question. What are these spears doing? There are no settlers in any of the stacks. But there is a city they could possibly be heading for.

This is sid, huge, 60% arch as Maya. I ran mapfinder overnight and while I was at school and found a five cow start (:D) which I made 4 dandy 4 turn settler factories out of, which are now 2 turn worker factories, which means 2 workers a turn. The domination limit is 4000 () so I'm going for quick domination. My original plan was milking, but the low domination limit appaled me, and it's good because I wouldn't have the patience to milk anyway.

Have you met all the civs, do you have embassy with them? Seems likely they either a) have a city down there to protect, or b) have an enemy down there to attack/pillage.

I've been playing an 80% water archipelago and I have a Sid AI on my island. I only have about 7 cities, but one is on a chokepoint hill. Needless to say the city has walls and barracks and the AI is losing about 15 units for every unit I lose. This is enabling me to be in a great position during peace negotiations - collecting one or two techs and sometimes even a city for peace. The peace is only lasting one turn, and then the war starts over again. I am not sure I can win or even last but I have learned that even if you are small and technologically backward, you can still get favorable terms for peace if you take enough enemy units.

Normally I would say they are just exploring, but with so many empty towns they may feel like helping themselves.

It has been my experience that a large landmass on Sid is a reciepe for disaster. It is usually very hard to hold against all the incursions. The only time I pulled it off was as the Mayans Vs Mongols.

I was very lucky that they made serveral bad moves with 12 unit stacks. I could not have beat those stacks at that time. Eventually I got 2 leaders and was able to smash them.

Funny thing is I lost on culture when I had finally become the strongest in the game. I never lost to culture again as I realized you do not want to kill off the other high culture civ until you are with 50%.

Another one. Yes, another one. This time I'm using an archer rush on standard pan, 70%, no preselected opponents. First I owned Philly of America, got three cities and HR for peace which I traded with CB to Rome for writing. I was fortunate having many EXP civs so I got lots of early contacts allowing some trading. I got an army too, archers, and I attacked America again, taking New York, and getting Atlanta and mysticismc for peace. They're down to three cities now, and I've got a friend Mursilis who will give me iron when he hooks up a second source. I'm now researched lit hoping for a trade opportunuty.

Here is my unfair start.

Good start, Own :goodjob:. Btw, I have planned to play solo sid game too, but I will post it in S&T forum :)
How many archers did you used to raze American city? Those three towns are far away from core, and they are low productive and corrupted. Wasn't it better to build two SF's using those cows, and grab all possible land?

It took seven archers.

It wasn't better, because I would have fallen behind in tech, unable to recover. Also I've crippled an AI, got lots of scientist land, got some techs, an army, and plans for more armaggedon when I get swords from the Hitties. If I don't get them soon, I'll attack America again with archers. Also I've been trying sid for ages, traditional style settler farm and then either attack or desperately keep up, and all have failed. This method seems to work well.

Btw, I mentioned this before but it wasn't emphasized, the land isn't totally useless, the one unhappy guy can be a scientist. I might get a monopoly on lit, and then I'll be in the middle ages (different AI's have lots of different techs, perfect for trading).

The good- I was lucky enough for the hitties to declare on america a turn before I planned to attack. I got a leader named Sun Tzu which will make a nice little sword army that can help destroy the hittities.

The bad- A turn before I got lit, nobody had it. A turn after, everyone did (except Rome from which I bought mathematics).

I have never seen this dialogue box before when playing sid.

Oooh, cool thread! Yes it's old, but it makes me think about trying Sid. I don't know if I have the attention span for all that trading though! What happened to China?

That could be because you had not played on contients or pangea. You better see it in those settings.

Did you meant archipelago? I think it was never done on standart size pangaea or continents, except variants with very rich starts and disabled victory conditions like space or culture (5 cows near capital and few wheats for nearby towns :crazyeye:), or HOF games with only 4 opponents.

Thanks :) . About the trading, you don't have to have a long attention span. CrpMapStat is a very neat tool, and can be found in C&C Utility programs. Alerts when new trades are possible. China was killed by an archer/ sword rush.

Btw, I tried to capture the GL from the Hittites, with two armies, but I failed. Game over. My entire military lost, at war with a juggernaut.
