Simple Creation a New civ?

Thank you very much for your help. I think I solved it on my own by talking it through with you. It would seem the <type> has something to do with the problem as I think the graphics are derived from there. I guess I keep the <type> on american and it will work just fine with the rest of the mods. (the added _dave was just me missing one to delete for the forum code). Anyway, I really appreciate your help and hopefully this helps anyone else who may be stuck. Now I just need to figure out where the <type> goes for later editing, but for now this is sufficient!

Thanks!

You can add new colors by modifying CIV4ColorVals.xml in the Assets\XML\Interface folder.
Out of all the negative feelings lurking around Firaxis about technical difficulties, you are shining on us like the Great Lighthouse. Thank you so much for the support and direction. :worship:

where can i define the leader characteristics and favorite civics? i cant seem to find it...

Those are found in the CIV4LeaderheadInfos.xml, in the XML/Civilizations folder.

EUREKA! I managed to mod Turks in the game :) and it works fine. :)

Thank you so much, right now, i'm working full speed on modding missing civs into the game which should keep me busy for a while until at least the official release. :)

i just asked this in another thread but i'll ask here too:

i managed to (after several tries) change a civ a bit in a mod. but i've changed the .ini file to let me play windowed mode, and i lose that when it loads the mod. i tried adding the same lines to the .ini file in the mod folder, but that didn't work. any suggestions? i'm really enjoying civ4 but i'm a constant alt-tabber so i way way prefer windowed mode to full-screen. thanks.

So you have it set to windowed in the .ini and when you load a mod it goes back to fullscreen? That seems odd... I've never noticed that before.

Anyways, if there's no other way around it you can set the mod in the main .ini ("Mod = 0" to "Mod = Mods\American Revolution\" or whatever) and it'll keep those settings. You'll just load that mod every time the game starts up.

It really seems like some kind of helper/wizard program could write this stuff easily. Out of curiosity can the average modder handle DOS commands or should I throw a GUI on top of it?

i tried that, figuring that when i don't want to play the mod, i can edit that line. but it didn't work either, it still reloads, even tho during the first loading it says "Init: Bozo" or something like that (i named the mod Bozo after my dog, long story).

the good news is that i did make the mod i wanted :) i just wish i could play it in windowed mode is all.

Well, that's strange. Such a thing has never happened to me before - it always stays in windowed mode.

Does the game actually RELOAD when you set that Mod line in the main .ini or does it load the mod from the start just not in windowed mode?

yeehaw now it works!!!!

the problem (i guess) was that i was trying to load a game i'd saved when i first made the mod. in that case it loaded first in windowed mode but then went to full-screen when i tried to load the save. but i tried again to start one from scratch, with the mod in the main .ini file, and that way it works yay!!!!!

so, it's not elegant, i'll need to edit that file if i don't want the mod, but that's fine. what i did was set the mod so that the AI can't use it, so even if i forget to edit the .ini when i don't want to use it things will work out. i'm glad that option is there, i sometimes like to do 'what-if' kind of scenarios and give myself various advantages that i'd not want the AI to use against me.

Now that you have that problem resolved have you tried running windowed mode with no default mod set?

have not tried running windowed with no default mod set yet, but i just tried to save and re-load a game *with* the default mod set and it's telling me that it has to restart. is that intended, even with the mod as default? i figured that was the reason for setting one default, to avoid all that restarting.

i'll exit out of this one and try to load the mod thru advanced, instead of default in .ini, and see what happens.

Does it actually restart when you load though? I think it gives that message sometimes when it doesn't need to.

gah! it *still* goes into windowed mode when it restarts for the mod, if the mod isn't in the default .ini file.

hmm good question, i didn't actually go thru with loading the game once it gave me that message, i was too impatient, i'll check.

and thank you!

Oh well... guess that's what happens when you have multiple .ini files. Tried adding the windowed line to the mod .ini now? ;)

And NP. Glad I can help out. :) Back to work for me!

OMG it's getting worse. now if i try to load a game it not only goes to full-screen mode, it tells me the mod file is no good! i think i broke it :( but it worked for a while, so i'm sure it's me and not a bug. thanks tho.
